Memorial Day Weekend - Central Oregon

  • May 24, 2014 · 9:30 AM

McKenzie Pass Ride:  Saturday, May 24, 2014; meet and greet 9:30 a.m.; wheels rolling 10:00 a.m.  Location:  Village Green City Park (2 blocks south of downtown Sisters on S. Fir).  Hopefully we’ll be able to make it all the way up to Dee Wright Observatory (if Mother Nature cooperates).  If not, I’ll add an extra 10 mile loop once we get back to Sisters.  Please dress accordingly as it can get COLD at the top and on the descent.  Everyone climbs at their own pace.

Twin Bridges and Beyond:  Sunday, May 25, 2014; meet and greet 9:30 a.m.; wheels rolling 10:00 a.m.  Location:  on street parking, corner of Cook Street and 5th Street near the Shell Station/Country Store in Tumalo, Oregon.  We’ll be riding two loops at a pace of 15-16 mph.  The first shorter loop is a portion of the Twin Bridges Scenic Bikeway and will bring us back to the cars.  Pack a lunch and leave it in the car or purchase a great deli sandwich at the deli counter in the Country Store.  Our second loop will take us out to Smith Rock and back.

First Loop (20 miles):  http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3290079

Second Loop (46 miles):  http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3290317

Make sure your bike is good working order.  Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather conditions.  A helmet is mandatory.  A mirror is recommended.  Cash, credit card, cell phone, snacks, flat tire kit, pump are all necessary/recommended.

We are looking forward to a weekend of great riding with great people.  Let’s hope Mother Nature is on our side.

Thank you: Sharon & Mike for planning great routes and organizing a wonderful weekend of cycling and: Barb, Steve, Carol, Wade and Lori for being so much fun to be around with. I thoroughly enjoyed everything. It was damn hard to point the car west Sunday!!

My ongoing fight of a sore throat and coughing this week continues in full force causing us to cancel. :( Have a great time everybody and drive safe.

Just wondering if anyone has made hotel / motel reservations yet? Would it be best to stay in Bend or outside of town??

We will be in Bend in RV park towards the south end of town

David, Barb & I are staying in Bend also. The first few places we tried were full. The place we found is on the south end of town on business 97.

We've (Sarah, Jason & I) reserved at a hotel in DT Bend. When I was looking online last week quite a few places only had 1-2 rooms left available that weekend. Chose Bend because it has more hotel & food options that Sisters.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
