New meetup scheduled, NYC prototyping competition and 300!

Dear hardwarians,

So sorry for the silence over the last 3 weeks. October has just flown me by and I barely noticed. However, there's a new meetup already scheduled which should be phenomenal and there's lots of things happening in the hardware world in our city. So let the show begin....

- Make it NYC is hosting a great panel called "Secrets of Kickstarter" on 10/30 at 7PM. Five of the most successful product and Open Source Hardware campaigns to come out of New York City, along with Kickstarter's own Stephanie Pereira on MC duties. Topics include making a successful Kickstarter Video, Campaign PR, taking a concept through prototype and fabrication stages, low-volume and short-run manufacturing tips, and much, much more, followed by a lengthy Q&A session. If you've ever considered a Kickstarter campaign, you won't find a better collection of Kickstarter wisdom anywhere! you can check out the event here.

- As you may know, Mayor Bloomberg and the EDC just launched a prototyping competition, where 6 lucky winning teams will get money, space, access to sponsored manufacturing and mentorship to accelerate to market. The press release is here. At the next meetup, we'll have Alison Hodgson and Miquela Craytor from the EDC explain the competition and take any questions.

- RSVP for our next meetup here, which will be held on Monday November 12th. We will have the folks from the EDC explain the prototyping competition and answer any questions you may have, and we'll have several startups and a new Boston based hardware incubator pitching. Don't miss it!

- Finally, we passed a small milestone last week - the NY hardware startup meetup passed 300 members (a good sign, perhaps, for the spartan nature of starting a hardware company). This shows the growing nature of our community, so if you know of anyone who would be interested in joining, please spread the word! I also want to thank you all for your engagement and helping make the events and community so great.

Now, eyes of screen and get back to building....
