Hey hardwarians,
It’s been a week of much celebrating for the hardware community in NY. KeyMe, a startup that makes kiosks that allow you to copy and save your keys just raised $7.8M Series A round and are hiring like crazy (see below). Congrats to Greg Marsh who is an avid member of this community! Also, Grand St, a marketplace for indie electronics and gadgets based here in NY, just got acquired by Etsy. Congrats to Amanda Peyton!
Things going on this week:
1) NYC BigApps is a 4-month competition that recruits the sharpest minds in tech, design, and business to solve NYC’s most pressing challenges. And this year, they are interested in connected devices!
How does BigApps work? Starting on May 7, we ask teams to build apps, games, data tools, and connected devices that address specific challenges in housing, energy, education, and more. The reward? Over $100K in cash prizes, over $200K of in-kind perks, amazing networking and learning opportunities, and endless recognition for improving civic life in New York City.
Who is BigApps looking for? Everyone. Novice or pro, left brain or right, individual, team, or company, we’re looking for problem-solvers passionate about making NYC better. Sign up today to learn more.
