The Nationwide End the Fed rally is only a few weeks away (Nov 22) and we are working on plans. At this month's monthly meeting we will review some of the history and economics behind the Fed and the movement to end it and we will also brief you on plans for the rally and get your ideas and input. We are on the verge of a huge success with the the Audit the Fed legislation but we are also being challenged by opponents who are trying to gut the audit provisions. We need to turn up the heat. Come down and get involved.

John O'Hara is the second New Yorker ever to be tried and convicted for the crime of voting once in an election. The first was Susan B. Anthony. O'Hara committed the supposed crime of registering and voting from his girlfriend's address, where he was living at the time, instead of his "permanent residence." In reality, his real crime was having the temerity to field candidates for election against the Brooklyn Democratic political machine. After three trials (triple jeopardy) and nine appeals, O'Hara was convicted of a felony, fined $20,000, sentenced to 1,500 hours of community service, and disbarred as an attorney. (Meanwhile, the political boss and long-time district attorney who convicted him, Charles Hynes, is registered to vote from the Brooklyn Municipal Building.) Manhattan Libertarian Monthly Meeting with CJ Maloney on A human Experiment - "Arthurdale and the New Deal" For a time from the initial birth of the town in 1934, Arthurdale was the epicenter of the New Deal, the Roosevelt Administration’s showpiece for what could be done for the common man. It was the first and most lavishly appointed of all the Subsistence Homesteads, a rather small New Deal program with the big goal of redistributing "excess" population from one area to another, the hoped for end result would be a "new American," living a communal life that would be a vast improvement on our country’s traditional individualism. C.J. Maloney lives and works in New York City. He is currently writing a book on Arthurdale, West Virginia during the New Deal. He blogs for Liberty & Power on the History News Network website.

The Consequences of Rent Regulation in New York City.
Almost 1,000,000 apartments in New York are subject to some type of rent control. This entrenched system has been a way of life for both landlords and tenants for over sixty years. But does it achieve its stated purpose of enhancing real estate development and providing affordable housing for New York residents? What are both the intended and unintended effects of price controls in housing? Who are the true beneficiaries of the system?
Mark Axinn is a partner in a boutique real estate law firm, specializing in co-op and condominium development and representation. He has argued in all courts from the landlord and tenant parts in Queens to the Court of Appeals in Albany. He was also an arbitrator in the small claims part in the Bronx in the 1990's. Mark is Vice Chair of the New York Libertarian Party and Secretary-Treasurer of its Manhattan chapter.
We hope to see you on August 10 at 7:00 p.m. for a lively discussion of this important topic.

Bring New York's Troops Back Home CJ Maloney on the Illegality of sending the State National Guard and Reserves to Iraq. During the battles along Canada’s Niagara front at the opening of the War of 1812, an American invading army under General van Rensselaer had to fight at severely reduced strength because “most of the New York militiamen refused to cross the river, insisting on their legal right to remain on American soil”, leaving his force instantly down 2,300 men. Shortly following, in a campaign along the upper Niagara River, it was the turn of Pennsylvania’s militiamen to refuse to cross out of American soil. By ordering New York’s military to the Middle East, the federal level has clearly overstepped her bounds. During the War of 1812, New York’s sons who had pledged themselves to defend her liberty refused to leave American soil. Our political leaders in Albany should take time to recall the courage, patriotism, and love of the Constitution that went into their decision – and emulate it. CJ Maloney is a frequent columnist for Mises.Org, LewRockwell.com, and Anti-War.com. He also writes under "Cyd Malone". Mr. Maloney has worked on Wall Street for over a decade and graduated from NYU Stern. A registered Democrat, he lives and works in New York City.
