ABOUT MARK:

Mark Oppenneer should be a Hydra for all the hats he wears... He is a storyteller, musician, writer, educator, web developer and doctoral student living in Upstate New York. He holds a BA in English and MALS in Mythology and Oral Tradition - and is presently pursuing a PhD in Communication and Rhetoric from the Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute. When he's not researching about technology, indigenous knowledge, and open source initiatives, he can be found playing Legos with his boys, streambed hiking, baking fresh homemade, or finding some excuse to be very silly. You can read his contribution about Tricksters on the JCF MythNow Blog (http://www.jcf.org/ne....

Among other adventures and misdeeds, Mark has been the organizer of the Saratoga Native American Festival (2 years), served as Education Director for The Ndakinna Education Center, a non-profit cultural arts organization (3 years), and worked as web developer and forum moderator for the Joseph Campbell Foundation (7 years). He will be making noise as this year's playshop musician at the JCF Mythological ToolBox™ Playshop at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA.

I enjoyed a GREAT and FUN night of Mark's storytelling when I met first him at Esalen last year. Now, I'm VERY EXCITED to be able to share him with the rest of the group during his first visit to NYC!!

Mark is always a special treat-- a great, engaging storyteller with a talent for describing the cultural context of a story in a way that's vivid. I enjoyed Mark's ribald humor throughout a night that was a tribute to trickster myths. It was great to see so many new faces and for our community to so warmly embrace our special guest. Looking forward to many more!

I really enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back! Mark is a great storyteller and it was really satisfying to connect with likeminded mythophiles.
