Breakneck with the Easter Bunny - Strenuous Intermediate Hike

Time to re-visit one of the most popular spots in the area. We will take the traditional route up and then branch off and circle back down to the right so that we come down on the side via the Cornish estate and back to through the tunnel. Just enough to give you a workout but a little more than the traditional breakneck hike. I am not looking to do this one at lightning speed and weather permitting I do plan to linger at select spots and soak in the views.

Estimate distance - In the 4 to 4.5 mile range - assuming we don't go on a random bushwhack - (These things do happen on occasion but not likely here.)

Please check with me if this is your first hike with the group. I just want to make sure that this is within your comfort zone.

This hike features rock scrambles and an elevation gain of 1000 feet in the first 1/3 of the hike.

Post Hike Meal - Since it is Easter, my guess it Whistling Willies (Re-opened) as we should finish up within the post lunch-pre dinner hour.

GPS Trail Head Coordinates: 41º 26.59′N, 73º 58.68′W
can someone plese confirm those coordinates?

Well behaved dogs welcome.

Please remember to dress in layers and bring enough water for this hike. Sturdy hiking boots are recommended.

Will update with phone number and details as we get closer to the date.

If light rain is in the forecast, I will switch the event to Fahnestock.

Special thanks to everyone for keeping me company on Easter. Extra special thanks to those who experienced Breakneck for the first time today. The Production Crew informed me that in order to hold off the rain it was necessary to employ one of their high tech wind gadgets. As a result, you might have felt an extra slight breeze once you passed the first flagpole.

Steve - fun all around - even blustery wind.

Blustery wind gusts replaced the beautiful weather we enjoyed at Minnewaska... and at times I felt I was being lifted from the ground... However, the fact that it didn't pour actually kept us all very happy!

Hi. Looking forward to joining the group hike for the first time and will be bringing a fit hiker with. Are we still doing breakneck ridge?

    March 30, 2013

  • Ra-Ra

Possible bail on my part. Was sick with bad stomach flu, fever, etc.. yesterday. Was told I look like hell, earlier today (although that's not different from any other day) Will see how it plays out over next day or two.

Please be certain that you have hiking boots for this event and that you are comfortable with a rock scramble. A rock scramble means that there are portions of this hike where you may need to be on all fours or utilize your arms and legs in order to advance up the trail.
