Bash Bish Falls and Mt Alander MA/NY border- Strenuous Advanced Hike

For this one you (and your guest) must be someone I've hiked with before and you must be someone that I know can handle a strenuous 7-10 mile hike.

This is one of my favorite hikes within a 2 hr radius of Westchester. Great Views & a beautiful waterfall

Note: We are meeting at the Lower Parking lot for Bash Bish  and we will  shuttle to either the Mt. Washington Lot or South Brace if we are a small group.

To throw something different in the mix, we will be coming down the STEEP blue trail at the end of the hike and we will be crossing the brook that leads into the falls. This may require taking off your boots and rolling up your pants.

$1.00 fee for this event.

Please remember to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, camera, hat, bugspray, snacks, change of footwear and clothing and a sunny disposition.

Please do not sign up for this one as a maybe.

Post Hike dining - Assuming it hasn't been sold - The legendary Taconic Wayside Inn

If there is interest, we can organize carpools from westchester or putnam.

Directions: For those coming from Connecticut or NYC area it's best to get on Rt. 22 north as it heads up New York along the Connecticut/Massachusetts border. Keep on Rt. 22 north and you'll eventually come to Copake, NY which is located where New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts borders meet. Proceed through the town of Copake and soon you'll approach the town of Copake falls. As you near Copake Falls, Rt. 344 east meets Rt. 22. Take a right onto Rt. 344 (east) and follow the signs for "Taconic State Park" The entrance to Taconic State Park is on your left and the entrance to Bash Bish Falls is about a mile up the road from Taconic State Park. (After you pass the entrance to Taconic State Park the road comes to a fork. Bear to your left at this fork following the signs to the entrance of Bash Bish Falls.)

Sorta nearby address for your GPS: The Copake Falls Post Office is about two miles from the MA trailhead, and a mile from the NY trailhead. Its address is:
109 State Route 344
Copake Falls, NY
Just keep heading east on 344 and you’ll be there in a couple minutes.

Note: You want the lower parking lot which is in NY - the meetup map shows the upper parking lot down the road in MA

Will update with phone number as we get cloer to the date.

Another legendary day! Let's see - In no particular order - There was the elusive binky - now I need a new one, Team Building Exercises, Flying Hiking Poles, Grassy Feet, Muddy Feet, Happy Feet, we learned there are always 8 more miles on every hike, the monument, the dropping of the flag with rocks, we learned the need for hiking poles on certain hikes, we hiked a very STEEP trail down, we walked on water, and enjoyed great food and atmosphere at my home away from home - The Taconic Wayside Inn -Special thanks to everyone who shared the unique conditions and to the Production Crew for doing what they do.

Not feeling too well this morning. Sorry!

Note: Since the people for the Kisco carpool bailed, I am removing that option. We will meet in Brewster between 8:10 and 8:20.

    June 8, 2013

  • Steve

Good morning - The hike is on. Please keep in mind that we may need to tweak our route and that the conditions are likely to be difficult and obviously slippery. There is no harm in bailing if this is too much for you. On the flipside, there will be plenty of water for the falls and you will experience this hike in a non traditional way.

As we approach Wed, open to doing carpool from either Kisco, Katonah, or Brewster. Will be watching weather but the production crew is doing their best to make sure the rain clears out for the hike.

Would like to carpool from Mt Kisco too, please.

      June 6, 2013

Too much rain for me, but enjoy the hike, everyone! Thanks.

      June 8, 2013

  • Robert

Sorry but I think I'm going to bail on this one.

    June 7, 2013

  • Steve

Based on Current forecast, this is a go as 1:45PM. Will send out full update with telephone number between 7 & 7:30 tonight.

    Carpool times - I am thinking - 7:45 Kisco & 8:15 in Brewster

    June 7, 2013

  • Steve

Yes - we can do a carpool from Kisco and make a stop in Brewster at intersection of 312/22 behind the McDonalds. There is a deli there so people will have food/restroom options. Still monitoring things and the Production Crew is working hard to make sure that we can get this in. Will provide update tomorrow before 6PM
