Lake Skannatati - Harriman - Intermediate Hike

  • Oct 5, 2013 · 9:30 AM

There are at least three hikes we can do from this point. Will consult the ancient scrolls and trail map and see which hike works best. The plan is to start at 9:30 sharp and be off trail no later than 2pm.

Trailhead GPS Coordinates
[masked],[masked]

Driving Directions

Proceed north on N.J. Route 17 to the New York State Thruway (I-87) north and take the first exit, Exit 15A (Sloatsburg). Turn left at the bottom of the ramp onto N.Y. Route 17 north, and continue through the Village of Sloatsburg. Just past the village, turn right at the traffic light, following the sign for Seven Lakes Drive/Harriman State Park. Follow Seven Lakes Drive for about 8 miles to the parking area for Lake Skannatati, on the left side of the road. The turnoff to the parking area is 0.7 mile beyond the Kanawauke Circle.

$1.00 fee for this event

Will update with phone number and additional information as we move closer to the date.

Please remember to bring enough water, snacks, and appropriate gear.

For those who came on late today - If I need to make any decision on hike, I will send out an e-mail and have an update here by 7:15 AM. No update means that the hike is on. Please allow enough prep time as I'd like to be on the move by 9:35.

Could not find a ride passing through NYC or leaving by some place near in NJ...RSVP NO, so someone can take the spot...Have fun guys for me and for you all...Love dogs, and they are the best hikers, better than us humans...lol

This is the most important question you have been asked this far; Are we going to the to the local eatery afterwards for food and drinks? ☆lollollollol★

For people who have been with me on previous hikes this is something you can handle.

Jay is more or less right especially if we start with the path he described - That path has one of my favorite views of the park -just not sure yet if that will be part of the start or the finish

Moderate level - no scrambling but a few hills not a walk around a lake

    September 30, 2013

  • Jay

I'll answer this if I may. Gotta figure wherever you park your car there will most likely be initial climb to start the hike, after that it will level off and have a few more rolling hills the rest of the day until the downhill to the cars at the end of the day. As far as total elevation gain expect[masked] feet on a standard hike.

    Hows that Steve? lol

I am not that familiar with Harriman. I’ve been on Seven Lakes Drive from the Bear Mountain Bridge. Could anyone direct me from the second traffic circle? Thanks I am looking forward.

Hi John - From Bear Mt Approach -The first traffic circle is Lake Tiorati - our entrance is before the 2nd traffic circle. After you clear Lake tiorati on your left you will drive for a few minutes. When there is a new lake on your left you are getting close- the entrance will be on your right going down. If you pass that 2nd lake on your left -you have gone too far.
