Timp, Bald & Doodletown - Harriman

  • Dec 8, 2013 · 10:30 AM

This is an upper level intermediate hike but I will be taking this at a slightly slower pace than usual. (We have some people in the group who have expressed an interest in moving up in their comfort zone so I am trying to accomodate that with this hike.)

Note: The Timp & Bald Mtns offer some of the best views within Harriman.

For this one you should be someone active with the group or active with a known local area group. (There are some ups on this one.  If your not sure if you are up for this send me a separate e-mail.)

Route: We will hike from Rte 9W / US 202, through Doodletown to the Timp, then over to Bald Mtn and come down via the Cornell Mine trail.

Estimated Distance - 7.5 to 8.5 depending on final route - there is one small waterfall we can work in if time allows.

Trail map: NY/NJ TC #119. Trail map is available from NY/NJ TC website ( or REI or EMS.

Online pdf trail map:

From Bear Mountain Bridge: Head west from Bridge to Bear Mountain Circle. Head south on Rte 9W / US[masked] miles. After crossing concrete bridge, park along east side of road.

Weather: Rain cancels.

Equipment: Sturdy hiking shoes. Water (at least 2 liters or bottles - I suggest having 3). Snacks. Hiking poles if needed.

Patrizia, you have fun in Italy with the students. Also, wow - you really know how to take pictures, esp. when nature speaks to you. Truly amazing photos you posted...
