Rockefeller Preserve

Beginner Terrain • Intermediate (Fast) Pace

"At Pocantico Hills...where the fine views invite the soul...I have spent many delightful hours, studying the beautiful views, the trees and fine landscape effects of that very interesting section of the Hudson River..." Mr. John D. Terrain: Easy to moderate carriage trails on rolling hills.

Both groups eat together.

The Parking lot is located on the south side of Route 117 approximately halfway between Route 9A to the East and Route 9 to the West. There are gates and stone walls at the entrance, a large horse-trailer parking lot, a little toll booth, a visitors center and a bathroom building.

Meet on the benches near the restroom.

Cancellation notices: I will cancel by 3:00pm if the weather looks dicey or if the hiking conditions are not great.

If your plans change, please be sure to change your RSVP to NO on the hike page. Leaving a comment won't free up a spot on the list. Thanks!

Pets: Friendly, well behaved dogs are welcome. The park requires dogs to be leashed at all times.  It is possible that we will encounter one or more horses with riders or carriages.

What a group of troopers, these people came out with threatening skies and a humidity so high you could cut it with a knife. 4 took the 4+ mile route and the others were pushing 5.5 miles. Everybody did a strong pace. The universe rewarded our efforts with a gold finch and to many of us an unknown flowering tree. Looking forward to Jim's photo's and I am sure Elsie will tell us what the tree was. 6 went to din din.

Spring weather patterns have been very unstable. This weeks' hike will not be rescheduled. If I cancel, you will know by 3:30, at the latest. As of now, I plan on showing up. Hike length and path (Any chance of lightening and we avoid open areas) will vary with anticipated weather. Probably will cya this afternoon.
