Weekly Rockefeller Hike - Post hike dining at 7:20 @ River Grill Roof Patio

Rockefeller Preserve

Beginner Terrain • Intermediate (Fast) Pace

5:00pm - (No Parking Fee after 4:30pm)

"At Pocantico Hills...where the fine views invite the soul...I have spent many delightful hours, studying the beautiful views, the trees and fine landscape effects of that very interesting section of the Hudson River..." Mr. John D. Rockefeller, Sr. Random Reminiscences - 1908 (Photo, Tiffany Black)

Contact: Feel free to post a question to the site or send me an email.  You may also call me:

Diner: I need to know if you are going out to eat at the start of the hike. We have to call in a reservation before the hike.

Terrain: Easy to moderate carriage trails on rolling hills.

Distance/Time Options:  After, 1  1/4 hrs group often splits into 2 groups (Weather often plays a big part on how the group splits up.):

1  1/2hr/4+ mile earlier out group

2 hr/5-6 mile longer option group.

Both groups eat together.

Pace: Moderate to brisk. Although this is a beginner hike, and nobody gets left behind, we walk at a very brisk pace! Please assess your ability to keep this pace before signing up.

Meeting location: We will meet at the the MAIN Parking lot for the Rockefeller State Park Preserve.

The Parking lot is located on the south side of Route 117 approximately halfway between Route 9A to the East and Route 9 to the West. There are gates and stone walls at the entrance, a large horse-trailer parking lot, a little toll booth, a visitors center and a bathroom building.

Meet on the benches near the restroom.

Latitude:[masked] Longitude: [masked]

GPS Address: 125 Phelps Way, Pleasantville, NY  10570

Cancellation notices: I will cancel by 3:00pm if the weather looks dicey or if the hiking conditions are not great.

If your plans change, please be sure to change your RSVP to NO on the hike page. Leaving a comment won't free up a spot on the list. Thanks!

Pets: Friendly, well behaved dogs are welcome. The park requires dogs to be leashed at all times.  It is possible that we will encounter one or more horses with riders or carriages.

We broke the 7 mile mark even with all of the hills and humidity; there is no stopping us now.

MY APOLOGIES TO THE EARLY OUT GROUP. fOR THIS AND THE LAST FEW WEEKS - I ESTIMATED YOUR DISTANCE INCORRECTLY - EACH TIME YOU GUYS DID 5 1/4 MILES. Late out group did 7 miles. Everybody did a min of 3.1 mph on "hilly terrian". You certainly are a tiugh buncb of bipeds. 10 people went to the River Cafe, conversations were flowing and the service was good. Nice way to end the day. It was good to see Dave out there again and Julia was well behaved. Andy I know you will post some pictures and I want to thank you in advance. Wishing you all a good week.

Once again Ted brings together a group of interesting friendly people, manages to cater to those who want a shorter hike as well as those who want more and get us fed too! Thanks!
