Pecha Kucha: Peekskill, NY - Come Join us and Be Inspired.... Join Area Artists, Designers, Faculty and Students for the First Ever Peekskill Pecha Kucha Night on Thursday December 3, 2009 at 7 pm at Peekskill's Westchester Community College located at 27 N. Division Street, Peekskill, NY 10566. Telephone # 914-606-7300. Lisa Prown will be hosting this event.
Join us for a special night of Pecha Kucha presentations by area Artists, Designers and Creatives. Using the Pecha Kucha format, a presenter shows 20 images for 20 seconds a piece, for a total time of 6 minutes, and 40 seconds. If you would like to learn more about this format, click here Sure to a fun and lively evening! Pecha Kucha was devised in 2003 in Tokyo to give young designers a venue to meet, network, and show their work; they created a format that kept presentations very concise in order to encourage audience attention and increase the number of presenters within the course of one night. They took the name Pecha Kucha (usually pronounced in three syllables as "peh-chak-cha" ) from a Japanese term for the sound of conversation ("chit-chat" ). Here is the official Pecha Kucha website: http://www.pecha-kuc ha.org/ Free and Open to the Public. Check out more events at Westchester Gallery at WCC! Trains are available from Grand Central Station to Peekskill, NY. Please call the College directly with any questions for this particular event. Note to members of this meet-up - As your new organizer, I will hope to add events to help us all have great 'artist dates' and I look forward hearing from you with your ideas of future meet-ups. With the Thanksgiving Holiday right around the corner, feel free to email me directly to share with me your thoughts and ideas. Happy Thanksgiving Day to All! Leah Quinn Your Organizer

Details of our meetup for November 28th, 2-4pm: Meet up at Zaro's located on 21st Street and broadway Actual Address: 920 Broadway What we wish to accomplish at this meetup: We will gather together to discuss ideas for our group in going forward from this point on. And as smartly suggested by Michael, we will also be starting with the Introduction [covering the Basic Tools & Basic Principles] of Julie Cameron's first book, The Artist's Way, to help other familiarize themselves with the book and its exercises. We will also be covering the Appendixes, in particular Appendix: Trail Mix Forming a Sacred Circle which outlines the use of the Book in Group format, as well as a working set of Rules. We will also be choosing 2 or 3 tasks of the next Chapter to complete on our own over the next 2 weeks. This is definitely a great opportunity for 'newbies' of this group to join us and for others new to the book series. We hope that new members will join us on this meetup to learn a little more about the group and to learn more about the process of The Artist Way, it's exercises and to even hear from some of us whose experience in utilizing the book's exercises has aided them with their creative breakthroughs, given them strength and anything else they wished to share in regards to their experience(s) with the book(s). Cyber-meetup We will make it possible to have a cyber event on this day as well (on our blog at http://nyartistsway. wordpress.com/) so that we can all be on the same page and for those of us who might not be able to make it down to Zaro's since we may be traveling still due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. The cyber event will basically share the 'minutes' of the meetup and allow others to make comments and ask questions and will be a supplemental place to share our ideas, do some of the exercises, share our experiences, etc. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us!

Hello Everyone! I will post other events in NYC and other areas in and around NY and Westchester - but thought you might like to learn about this event $7-9 a ticket - $5 for students with IDs. These other events will be not only ideas for Artist Dates, but places for us to share with each other our experiences and even do fun exercises using The Artist Way formats... The Paramount Theater W/ Special Guest U Pyinya Zawta on Nov 22 at 3pm. Directed by Anders Østergaard Burmese & English (NR) 84 minutes U Pyinya Zawta, a leader of the 2007 "Saffron Revolution" in Burma, will doing a Q&A after our screening on BURMA VJ on Nov 22nd. As you probably remember from TV coverage at the time, this peaceful protest movement against the military dictatorship was spearheaded by monks in red robes. The regime responded by violently dispersing the marchers, but video images of the repression were captured on camcorders and broadcast around the world. U Pyinya Zawta is founder of the All Burma Monks' Alliance. Rangoon, 2007. Soldiers viciously attack peaceful monks. Large throngs of protesters defy the government crackdown. A small cadre of courageous undercover journalists, armed only with cheap handycams, surreptitiously steal these images from the streets. Their footage is then smuggled out of the country and ultimately broadcast, both around the world and back into Burma via satellite. "As gripping as any Hollywood thriller and as heartbreaking as any weepie" (Daily Mirror), Burma VJ is an "inspiring" documentary (New York Times)-"the new guerrilla narrative" (Washington Post). "Suspenseful and harrowing. Filmmaking at its most fearless!!" (LA Times) Hope to see you there!
