The 2 for $5 pizza (soft drink included) was not too good. Found a bunch of people upstairs looking at magazines or comics or catalogs or something. Some guy, looking somewhat like Al Mejias, wore a superman tee-shirt. No one said a word to me; I said not a word to anyone. I'm not sure what the point of the Meetup was.

Another fun Cafe-R meetup. Met some cool new people, and spoke to friends I saw before, good times!

Were u guys thinking of trying to do a NYCC meetup?

    June 23, 2013

    • Jimmie H.

This is just a premeet up for NYCC. Some of us do meet up a few places before going to the con.

      October 8, 2013

    • Al M.

We also have an After Party on Sunday.

      October 9, 2013

While at NY Comic Con please visit our sponsors, Axe Ice Anime Booth #880 & Philosopher Phlex Booth #3057. They carry lots of anime related products and costumes. Also Phlex says you may use his booth as a rallying / meeting point throughout NYCC.

    anyone cosplaying?

    2 · October 6, 2013

    • Serdar Y.

We generally don't have cosplayers, since this is held out in public.

      October 8, 2013

    • Al M.

Most people don't cosplay, but it's cool if you do. We do have other meetups like the Game Over Sunday events where cosplaying is encouraged.

I will be there--a bit late, but I should make it. I am going to NYCC, but only on Sunday with my niece.

      October 5, 2013

    • Al M.

It will be good to see you again. :)

      October 8, 2013

I'll try to make it around 6:30 PM and I'm new so I'm not exactly familiar with meetups... :(

    1 · October 8, 2013

    • Serdar Y.

Things officially start at 7, so you might not see many people there until then. The format is very open-ended; we mostly just sit around and talk.

Why Manga Publishing Is Dying (And How It Could Get Better)

Yeah I found it to be a little Polly Annish. I posted to see what other people thought.

      October 6, 2013

    • Serdar Y.

The line "publishers are unnecessary; Japanese self-publishing is booming" was a tipoff to me. The fact that self-publishing is booming does not mean that self-publishing *as a business model* is becoming superior (more effective at reaching fans, more efficient, more profitable) than the old model that is lambasted at length in this piece. The problem with self-publishing is that anyone who self-publishes also has to self-promote. There's more but you get the idea.
