Introduction
Hello, my name is Laura! I just graduated from the University of Chicago, where I wrote my thesis on fantasy literature and film. I was raised on Tolkien from an early age, and am excited to meet others who share my love of his work.

I enjoy fantasy films and books for the dimensions they can add to our lives and minds; escapism is a much maligned concept, in my opinion, and something to be embraced rather than ashamed of.
If you have read the Lord of the Rings books, did you see the movies first or did you read the books first?
My father read me the books when I was a kid, and I started reading them for myself a few years later. Short answer: books first!
