Darn, too early for me, I usually work till 6 or 7. Enjoy!

Is there any plan to get tickets in advance and attend the premier on December 13th? It's a Friday which could be good for most of us.

Yes, I will get tickets for the midnight Dec 12-13 premiere for myself and Dennis (and anyone else who wants to join us in W. Nyack at the Palisades Center Mall -- but I would doubt anyone will, as it is not NYC and transportation at 3 AM is somewhat problematic!). That is where and how I have attended all the LotR and Hobbit premieres so far. Then we plan on Fri afternoon to head down to Baltimore for the Mythmoot conference on Adapting Tolkien in art and film, where we will see the film on Sat morning and spend the weekend in full Tolkien immersion mode!

Tim: Sounds awsome!! I hope you guys enjoy. It's great that Mythmoot is on the same weekend as the premier. :)

But, yes, I am hoping for a "New York City Hobbit/Elf experience". and that weekend (Friday,Saturday) is open for me. Anyone else?

Was anyone in our meetup group fortunate enough to have gotten tickets for tonight's (Monday 11/4) fan event, at Lincoln Square Cinemas? Congrats if so, and please let us know how it was after attending. :-)

I sent out links to as many members as I could as soon as I got invite from Warner Bros. They sure went fast. I got passes, but no one else I contacted did. I won a DVD of the upcoming extended version of "The Hobbit" as well. Timdalf went too. He was a media darling.

Ok, Hobbit fans,
Here are the two links to the two pages on TOR.n that between them describe the whole event from last evening, one of which was broadcast over the Internet and the other the sneak peak scenes we in the theaters saw:
SPOILERs ALERT!

Not sure what to think of this new character. She's a love interest for Leggy.

Yes, I hope this is not too much of an agenda driven interpolation. I have no problem with Arwen being given a more prominent role in LotR, or Galadriel in TH 1,2,3, but I find militant warrior maidens a bit of a stretch for a Tolkienesque world... that is, until I bring to mind Luthien. To my mind the main theme of TH as Tolkien wrote it is the tension between "dragon sickness" and its counteractive: hobbit sense (and its concomitant: loyalty -- both rooted in The Shire's ethos). So far they have been nicely developed in PJ's Hobbit... How Tauriel will enhance those themes will be interesting to see, or not see!!
I suspect from hints given so far, that she is what helps transform Leggy from the aloofness of his father Thranduil to the decent chap he is in LotR, esp. in regard to Gimli. It will be interesting to see if there is a parallel "qualitative easing" in Gloin, Gimli's father as he observes Thorin's decline into d-s syndrome.
