Tour de Queens -- leisurely 18-20 mi. bike ride thru Queens

Registration for the 7th Annual Tour de Queens bike tour is available at: http://www.transalt.org/biketours and costs $20 for general admission (or $15 if you belong to the Transportation Alternatives initiative). **You must register for the event before you show up.**

The Tour de Queens is a fun-filled, family-friendly 19 mile bike tour, held every July. The route changes every year in an effort to highlight different neighborhoods of Queens, but this year's returns to the starting point of Flushing Meadows Corona Park - the site of the World's Fair and near Arthur Ashe Stadium, for you tennis buffs. How the Tour de Queens Works:

Timeline:
7 am: Rider check-in and registration opens
8:30 am: Check-in and registration closes
9 am: Tour departs
12:30 pm: The Tour returns to the starting point of Flushing Meadows Park
*Check-in/start time is subject to change, so be sure to review the website (listed above) over July 4th weekend before showing up.
1 pm: To quench our bodies, we will stop by the Lemon Ice King of Corona nearby for an Italian Ice treat following the ride. There is also an Arepas place nearby if anyone is really hungry for lunch.

We ride rain or shine. The tour is 19 miles of Queens's finest biking. The Tour de Queens will have an NYPD police escort and safety cell. The ride will have a family-friendly pace (in other words, slow). *This is not a race.* The NYPD escorts the ride as a rolling parade and there will be occasional stops while the police and marshals secure intersections and gather riders. The Tour will be supported by volunteer safety marshals. They are there to assist riders in need and to help safely move the tour through intersections. Light snacks and water will be available the rest stop, located approximately half-way through the tour. *Please bring your own water bottle and adequate supply of water for the duration of the trek.* (1 - 2 L depending how hot it gets). If you have any peanut allergies or will want a more substantive lunch, we recommend you bring your own food. There is no SAG vehicle for the tour. If you have serious mechanical troubles or become exhausted on the tour, marshals will help you reach the nearest subway station or direct you to a bike shop. We will be riding down two way streets. Please stay on your side of the road while riding in the Tour. Registration is required. In accordance with New York State law, helmets are required for riders age 13 and under.

The 2014 Tour de Queens begins and ends at the Flushing Meadows Corona Park in eastern Queens. The check-in area will be at the plaza between the Queens Museum of Art and the Unisphere. The Address for the Queens Museum of Art is: New York City Building, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens, NY 11368.

Public Transportation: 7 train to 111th St. or Mets-Willets Point. For more info, see the attached link:
