Dave Arneson tribute this Saturday the 9th!

This location is shown only to members

Message from Tavis: Last month Dave Arneson, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons and the originator of the first fantasy campaign, passed away. On Saturday, May 9th the Complete Strategist will host an afternoon of gaming as a tribute to his memory. Dave's work has inspired three decades of roleplaying, from the original D&D to its 4th Edition, and from noon until 5 pm, we'll play games using both of these rules systems as well as some created just for the occasion. The common denominators will be fun, imagination, and heroic adventure!

Sign-up sheets will be posted at the start of the event to help players find games. If you're interested in running a game at this event, email the following info to [masked] so he can put together a signup for your game:

Available Games:

- Game 1 Name: From Blackmoor to Loch Gloomen
- Run By: Tavis Allison
- Maximum Players: 8
- Brief Blurb:
Journey through the wilderness, equipped with your wits, your skill with swords and spells, and your choice of mysterious magical artifacts! The great lord of Blackmoor is no more, but he left an inheritance for your brave band of adventurers: an abandoned castle near Loch Gloomen. You are destined to rule a kingdom of your own, if you can survive the trip through the gloomy swamps, find the castle, and defend it against hordes invading monsters.
- Recommended For: Kids, parents, and fans of exploration, discovery,
and free-wheeling, rules-light imagination.
- RSVPs{Rob R, kentmagus, Chris}

- Game 2 Name: Tower of Souls
- Run By: Brad Velcoff
- Maximum Players: 6
- Brief Blurb: A meteor crashes nearby, and adventurers investigate. But the crater is no ordinary crater, and the party finds themselves whisked off to an interplanar adventure where thousands of lives...and souls...are at stake, including their own. The party must not only engage in hellish encounters, but also find a way home. Players may create their own 25th level characters, or characters will be provided.
- RSVPs{Nick, darkelf, WalK, Michael DeFelice, John H, Joshua}

- Game 3 Name: Delver's Requiem
- Run By: Johnny Tek
- Maximum Players: 8
- Brief Blurb: I've put a lot of heart and soul into writing
this one. For 5th level characters.
- RSVPs{ericpnyc}

- Game 4: The Fane of St. Toad
- Run By: Jon Hastings
- Maximum Players: 8
- Brief Blurb: We're going to try to answer the question of
what kind of person would trek across a dismal swamp to loot an
abandoned temple that was once dedicated to the worship of a
sanity-shattering Toad god from beyond the stars. The Fane of
St. Toad is a scenario written by Michael Curtis for the
"Original Edition" of D&D. We'll be using the three "Little
Brown Books" along with Supplement II: Blackmoor ('natch) (but
no experience with that or any other particular version of D&D
is necessary).
- Recommended For: Brave souls interested in dungeon crawling,
problem solving, and traditional, non-nerfed adventure gaming.

    Tavis I assume this will be using old school rules right? You'll have pre-mades?

    Yep, my game will use an old school refereeing style (meaning that the mechanics are "under the hood" so that the players interact with the imagined world, not the rules). We'll make characters at the start.

    One for Brad. I will use one of your pregen's. I made two epic characters in the past week and I don't think I can handle a 3rd. What characters classes/races are you offering?

    I have a tiefling warlock, a tiefling warlord, a human two-weapon ranger, a human cleric and a human fighter. They could probably all be individualized (tweaked), though you might want to adjust one of your already-made characters.

    Will it be the standard build for items (i.e 24th, 25th26th and one 24 lvl items worth of gold?

    An Avenger Paragon multi-class TWF. I actually am playing the character at lvl 2 in the RPGA group and would love to see how he performs at higher levels.

    Also does anyone know how to create .pdf files of the character builder character sheets?

    There's a free program called PDF Creator. It allows you to print any document to pdf. You can gey it at sourceforge.net.
    That character sounds seriously kick-ass. I'll have to throw some serious $&*O$ at the party.

    or cutepdf is another free pdf program and I think if you have adobe reader installed you can print to pdf. When you go to print it, you have to choose "pdf output" as your printer instead of "HPLaserjet123". It will then create a pdf file. If it isn't an option there you'll need one of those free programs

    I'm seeing if any of the people who played in johnny's group which i brought to the game are interested in attending this week. Johnny, are you using 4th ED ruleset? If so any restrictions?

    Brad since you're running a high level adventure. There's some problems with the Character Builder and two wizard powers. Wall of Force and Fire Shield should both be Daily powers but the CB is listing them as Encounter. They know of the issue.

    Unsign me up for Tavis' game, please. Some family obligations came up at the last minute and I must oblige. Sorry to bail out, the adventure looks great.

    Sign me up for Brad's game, please? I'll see if character builder can churn me out a 25th level PC, but take a pregen if I don't get around to it.

    We'll have signup sheets at the event, so it's OK if folks RSVP in general. I'll print out the sheets with the RSVP folks already listed, which'll mean that yours won't have open spaces already by the time it goes up, Brad - it might be a good idea to let one or two alternates sign up, though, in case one of the RSVPs doesn't make it.

    No Prob I managed to get it into PDF. I found some software called PDF Direct that someone was using on a forum. Works very well if anyone else is having trouble converting Character Builder files to PDF format. Thanks for trying, I appreciate it.

    Thanks to everyone who came and played, and especially to Jon for stepping up to run Fane of the Toad when I had to run out & to everybody at the table for being cool with the change in scenarios! Chris, it'd be great to have you play in the original D&D campaign I run - http://redbox.wikidot.com/the-white-sandbox-page - and/or in other games of similar vintage that get organized thru that site.
