weeknights dnd 3.5, Manhattan (new and old friendly)

  • September 16, 2013 · 7:00 PM

It seems like there is a craving for some good old fashion 3.5 homebrew. Is there a DM's out there with a story they want to tell? Cause it seems like there are plenty of people who are interested in living it. Honestly I do not have the time to commit to DM'ing, but I would love to help get the ball rolling on a game.

Thanks everyone for attending. I will email, but I'll also put sessions on meetup for another couple of times. If you didn't make it, no orib, drop in sometime. Next game, Monday the 23rd at 7-10:30ish. I will be there early if you'd like to fine tune your character or get into some extra trouble/xp. Special thanks to Scott for heroically attempting to annihilate the doorstep gang.

Hey folks, just for planning purposes, could you please reply if you are still coming monday the 16th?

    September 12, 2013

    • Marcus

I'll be there -- and if there are too many players for one group I can run a Dungeon Crawl Classics game.

      September 16, 2013

    • Jenkins W.

definitely coming, but won't be there until about 8

I'm new/coming out of a long retirement so I don't have dice or anything. I'd love to come but if my lack of equipment is a problem, would I be bored out of my mind just hanging out and observing?

    September 13, 2013

    • A former member
      A former member

Observing is not as option (and sounds excruciatingly boring!) so you must dive in to slay or be slain. Playing is easy, so you need nothing but your wits.

Quick question; I only just started attending these... How does it actually work with so many people meeting up? Does everyone just peal off into smaller groups once you get there

    September 12, 2013

    • Lady M.

If no one else does, I'll help you. Just bring yourself. I can lend you dice and I'm bringing my players handbook.

I'm still good for this Monday. Alternately, I could do Thursdays going forward. (Tuesdays are really bad because they're WoW patch days and start a new raid cycle.)

So, I just remembered that I'm not available every Monday of September starting next week. Is it too late to change the meeting to any other weekday? Like Tuesday?

Monday seems to be a good day for a lot of people so fro right now I'd like to keep it to the proposed schedule, but maybe you can join in in October, or we can think about moving it to another days once we've got a proper game going.

I'm a newbie with a pathfinder core book. I was told that it was similar to 3.5. Is this true and can I still come?

    September 12, 2013

    • A former member
      A former member

Hey Fendy, yeah, 3.5 D&D is very much like pathfinder, Characters start simpler and weaker, and there re other small rules differences, but basically the same game.

      September 12, 2013

    • Fendy F.

Thanks a lot Adrian. Looking forward to the game!

What books should I bring? I assume the
Players Guide and maybe something else? I have Ebberon, Complete Scoundrel, and several others. I can only bring a few. Maybe Arms and Equipment.

I think the PHB would be useful, but not necessary. I'd like to stick to the classes in the core PHB.

      September 9, 2013

    • Colin

Might we be able to take up prestige classes as the adventure progresses/the region is established?

I'm potentially interested in coming and checking the game out.

My head gets all scrunchy when I go to rpgconnect. I figured we could use this thread until the first game then go to email. I'll have books and apps, and I'll bring charsheets and multiple copies of the most essential pages.

I hereby propose a game on Monday the 16th, at Cafe 28, using loose but mostly by the book 3.5 rules, set on the Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms around 1372, portraying the exploits of 1st level characters as they wander searching for adventure and fortune, with characters created together so that they are connected, run by me. All of this is negotiable, but let's play some D&D!

    1 · September 2, 2013

    • Colin

Two questions: we are doing 3.5 or Next? I'm playing a Next campaign now and haven't ever played 3.5 Would love to try it out. And when you say "straight down the line" for dice rolling that means 6 rolls of 4d6k3 but not necessarily "first role is str second is dex" or anything like that, right? Just checkin'.

      September 6, 2013

    • A former member
      A former member

3.5 not Next. That is indeed what i mean by straight down the line, but how about we say that rearranging is fine, but if you take the numbers straight you get a 13 xp bonus and everyone acknowledges how hard core you are?

Leighton and Archibald both said they'd be interested in DMing, as would I. If we knew what kind of game are people interested in that would help. WEIRD REDUCTIVE QUIZ
Pick best match. A) I just want to be in a dungeon, ankledeep in orcblood. Otherwise, don't care.

    B) I want the game to really be about roleplaying and personal interactions. Otherwise, don't care. C) I'd like to be in some known setting, like the Forgotten Realms or something, and follow a cool story, possible from a module.

    D) I'd like to be in a known setting, like the Forgotten Realms or something, and treat it like a sandbox where we can go do anything, and the cool story will build up based on what we do.

    E) I don't want to be in a known setting, but I want a pretty clear story to follow.

    F) I don't want to be in a known setting, and I want play in a sandbox where we can go do anything, and the story builds up based on what we do. E) None of the above. Explain!

I'm game for some 3.5, it's what I would always play back when. Manhattan would be best as I'm coming from Brooklyn, and I don't really have a preference for time as long as it isn't during work hours.

    August 22, 2013

  • Julio R.

Would like to attend, would need date, and i haven't played in about fifteen years, I'm basicly a newbie, is that ok?

    August 20, 2013

  • Leighton C.

I am willing to DM a game of 3.5. I already have a story to use. Manhattan would be best. Also the Complete Strategist has a game there once in a while so they do have tables we could possibly use. If anyone has better ideas I am willing to hear them.

Don't know Complete Strategist but if they cater to this kind of thing then awesome.

      August 20, 2013

  • Colin

I would definitely get in on this. Would love to start a new campaign with a bunch of level 1 characters and learn 3.5 from the ground up. Meeting in lower/midtown Manhatten would be best for me.

A starbucks or similar coffee shop could work. Chances are they'd have a table in the back and coffee is cheap.
    Columbus Circle area?
    Thursdays?

They open the upstairs for dinner at 5:30, however it can fill up they said. They probably wouldn't want us hanging out there for several hours, especially if we're not running up a high bill.

  • Raffi T

let's get a time and date and location, please.

    August 5, 2013

  • Archibald

Also, if you have a bunch of players willing to start at level 1, I can write an adventure based on their characters; and we can all learn 3.5 together.

    1 · July 30, 2013

  • Archibald

I have never played 3.5, but I could learn it. I can DM once I'm more familiar with the rules.
If you're willing to co-DM, I could write the story and characters, and you could play rules lawyer.

    July 30, 2013

  • Sara

I'd love to join depending on the date/location. I can bring hardcopies of books as needed. I have tons 3.5 books, but I obviously can't carry them all so if someone needs something they'll have to ask ahead of time.

    July 24, 2013

Where and when and which books do we use?
