It's a hot topic that permeates virtually every industry today. My sister does digital media consulting; I find particularly fascinating the attempts to quantify social networks. For example, what is the utility/value of one (Facebook) "like"? I'm also intrigued by unsupervised machine learning algorithms, which I believe are the successors of classical regression modeling since they rely on fewer assumptions (e.g. Bayesian Additive Regression Trees). I know there's so much more to learn and would like to keep current with developments in the field. I heard about this meetup through a buddy of mine, Soren Larson.
