Introduction

Hi, My name is Cheo and I currently work in the renewable energy/financial services industry for a firm called Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) and am looking to further develop practical, hands-on skills and applications in finance. Thanks!

What is your career or entrepreneurial dream?

Ah, so I don't have one explicit dream or career aspiration per se. Instead, there are a bunch of things I would like to do in the coming years including: renewable energy project finance in developing countries; study and make use of research in the information design and cognitive psychology fields to finance and/or create effective tools for public education; and other things like travel more and write a novel.

What is your professional profile (education, experience, etc.)?

I have a BA in International Relations (graduated 2007) from the University of Pennsylvania, though I took off ~4 years before going to college to travel, teach English abroad and work in public schools in Connecticut. I've been working at BNEF, where I handle client services for our Americas clients, for just under 3 years.

What top 3 finance skills interest you? (fundamentals 101, building projections, profit & loss, cash flow, balance sheet, line of credit, financial products, valuations, project finance, financial restructuring, reengineering, risk

Top 3 in no particular order: project finance, valuations and cash flow, and financial products

What kind of meetings interest you the most (general social, learning workshops, panel discussions, tools (Excel) learning, etc.)

I'm most interested in learning workshops and particularly those that use cases and scenarios to apply the uses of various tools like Excel.

What are your suggestions for helping improve this forum for enhancing its usefulness?

I of course haven't been to one of the group's meetups yet, though generally I do think the idea of having a clearly defined set of concepts and applications for a given gathering, and allowing the participants to informally participate in and engage the material in a hands-on manner (e.g., group work), is a good way to encourage learning.

  • I saw you on meetup and thought that you would be interested in our new group www.meetup.com/green-power. We will be meeting to network and to discuss jobs with a green theme. We also have green energy experts on the team to show how you can save money (or make money) with green energy. If you have a green themed job, you can tell us all about it! Speakers welcome. Members network and share opportunities. Look forward to meeting you!
