Lightpainting and Long Exposure at Gantry State Park

This will be our first Light Painting event and if you haven't tried it, you are in for a treat.  For the simplest form of light painting, only a flashlight (and/or colored gels) is needed.  Smartphones, tablet computers can also be used and will give you more options.

There are also varies tools that you can purchase such as wands, LED sticks, battery powered LED Christmas lights can light up can be used.  I should have a pixelstick for this event, here is what it can do...

There are several really good websites devoted to light painting and if you haven't visited them yet, I encourage you to check them out.

**You must have a camera with long shutter speed ability and a sturdy tripod**

(Note: Do not bring LASER POINTERS, they can permanently damage your camera sensor  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0TgaGePhJA ) (the thin pink line that cuts across the screen after the laser passes over the camera is permanently damaged pixels, it will show up on all your pictures afterward)

I look forward to seeing what you have in mind in regards experimentation.

If you prefer to do long exposure, there are plenty of areas where to shoot.

The weather report says a light afternoon shower which will clear up. Tonight it should be clear with light clouds, perfect for long exposure and lightpainting.

Ah, good point Chris, it is good to wear black clothing when doing the light painting so that you won't show up in the photo.

I will be running some test this month before the meetup to see what setting work well with my Nikon. I think I will want between 1 to 4 minutes of time to make a drawing.
