Saturday June 14, 2014 - The Wind 100 Run and Rally

  • Jun 14, 2014 · 7:00 PM

On June 14th, Matt Kearns, a Long Island native and Sierra Club volunteer will run 108 miles across Long Island in a single day to call for a historic investment in offshore wind power. Matt will start his run before dawn on June 14th ending that evening as he crosses the finish line at a rally which will feature speakers and musicians. Not all of us can run 100 miles.  Hopefully you will come and join us in supporting and cheering Matt at the finish line as he completes his epic run. Off shore wind done in a balanced and responsible way to preserve a healthy eco-system will create thousands of jobs, cut pollution from dirty fossil fuels and could be an important part of our renewable energy solution.

For those of us living in New York City, we can reach the rally at Long Beach Boardwalk by Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to Long Beach station. The boardwalk is within walking distance from the LIRR station.  On 6/14/14 I plan to take the 5:38 pm train leaving Penn Station which is scheduled to arrive at Long Beach at 6:35 pm. If you wish to join me, please purchase your round trip train ticket and meet me under the LIRR train schedule board inside Penn Station by 5:15 pm.

he got a bunch of great write ups and coverage by newsday and Channel 12--we leafletted in town all day to alert people about the run and the issues, and many people said "I saw it on tv this morning!" even better, people were OVERWHELMINGLY wanting a wind farm and down on the LNG port. A full reportback will be in tomorrow's Sane Energy Project newsletter. Just hope Matt is not in too much pain still (or getting good drugs at least!)

Matt Kearns ran over 90 miles from Montauk Point toward Long Beach to draw attention to the need for wind energy. His run was an amazing feat of strength and will power. It's a shame not more people, especially locals attended. Hopefully, we'll see some reporting on this in the media.

was so happy to be there when Matt came in. He ran 90 MILES before EMTs made him stop. Amazing and heroic.
