Monthly Alliance Meeting

Volunteers are needed to be facilitator, timekeeper, scribe, and stack taker. Please volunteer in the comment section, below. Someone also needs to prepare a written agenda for the meeting (post suggested agenda items in comment section below).

HOW OUR MEETINGS WORK:

We meet once a month to discuss items of mutual interest and decide on joint efforts. We use this meetup group and a google listserv ([masked]) to support each other's events with attendance and promotion to our own private lists.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to gain permission to post events here on meetup you must attend at least one meeting in person and represent a group that hosts events of interest. Non-relevant or commercial events will be deleted at the discretion of the group organizers.

We prefer not like to take time out of the meetings for event announcements. If you have an event coming up that you want help with or want to announce, please CREATE AN EVENT HERE AT THE MEETUP SITE, or bring flyers to pass out at the meeting.

Agenda Items :

Reportbacks

N3 FERC action; BXE week of action; Port Ambrose events; Northeast Alliance meeting; Voices of Hope event, other reportbacks?

Ongoing Projects

Port Ambrose, Strategy discussion

New Projects

Seneca Lake support, other new projects?

Please suggest additional agenda items in the comment section (below) at least one day before the meeting.

Every nuclear power plant is built along water because they are tremendously hot and need to be cooled down. If they aren't, they melt down. During heat waves, they have to shut down because there isn't enough water or the water is too warm. That has happened in France, Spain, Germany, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and other places.

Indian Point alones uses as much water EVERY DAY as all of New York City does. All of that water becomes radioactive.

The public comment period for EPA's new standards on greenhouse gases is Dec. 1. If the new standards go through, expect to see fracking and nuclear power to be used by states to meet regional greenhouse gas initiaves (RGGI) and renewable portfolio standards (RPS) and money given to frackers and nuclear utilities and not to renewable energy, energy efficiency or energy conservation because they will legally be allowed, and in fact encouraged, by EPA to do just that. Fracktivisits and anti-nuclear activists will have MORE fights on their hands when this happens. And the planet will have more poison in the air.

I suggest we add to our November 10 agenda a discussion of what the below might mean for us as a group.

Hold up: I rmmbr now that the meeting was moved to the 10th due to the FERC trip to Washington. Can someone confirm whether or not there will be a meeting on Nov. 3rd, or if it is indeed pushed to the 10th?

      Correct. Moved to 10th

I'm under the impression that folks from the newly formed Safe Energy Coalition will be coming on the 3rd, too. Because Election Day follows, we can discuss who we're voting for and why. Too political?
