Geography:

Stephens State Park lies along the Musconetcong River and is located 1.5 miles south of Hackettstown on Route 604 (Willow Grove Street) and 7 miles west of Route 206 on Route 604, also known as Waterloo Road.

Recreation:

Stephens State Park offers many recreational activities for both day and overnight visitors.

Canoeing and kayaking are enjoyable activities, especially when river conditions are favorable.

Picnic tables and charcoal grills are available, many of which are located right along the river.

Designated multi-use trails are available for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The Jersey Off-Road Bicycle association (JORBA) provides trail maintenance. Stephens State Park is a favorite choice for mountain biking in the area. All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) are not permitted in the park.

Stephens State Park offers 39 tent campsites, some of which can accommodate RVs, but they must be self-contained as there are no water, sewer or electric hookups available at the park. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring. There is also a playground and a playing field in the camping area.

Stephens State Park offers excellent fishing opportunities for the freshwater angler. During the spring and fall, the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife stocks the Musconetcong River with brown, rainbow and brook trout. A New Jersey fishing license is required for individuals between the ages of 16 and 70.

More than 470 acres of Stephens State Park are open to hunting. Hunting is subject to NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife regulations.Nearby Attractions:

Stephens State Park is just one of many New Jersey State Parks in northern New Jersey. Jenny Jump State Forest, Worthing State Forest, Swartswood State Park and Hopatcong State Park are all under an hour drive.

Waterloo Village, located in Allamuchy Mt. State Park, is approximately 5 miles away. Call Stephens State Park office (908)[masked] or go to www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/url to get a schedule of Canal Heritage Days.

There is a Rock Climbing Area located about 5 miles away in Allamuchy Mt. State Park. A waiver for individual climbing, available at the Stephens State Park office or online at www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/url MUST be signed first.

There are many other nearby attractions in Warren, Sussex and Morris Counties.

The nearby Delaware River and Delaware Water gap National Recreation Area also offer many recreational activities for visiting families to enjoy.

Entrance is NOT off Stephens state park road. It is off of willowbrook... When you see sign for park entrance go straight to get into camp area. Taking right fork brings you to registration /overflow parking.

Hi. I was wondering if we were going to organize meals like dinner, or should I just pack for myself. Thanks!

Karla, Kay , I have fairly small car, Civic . Depending on how many bags each one brings I can take 2 or possibly 3 ppl. It's a over an hour ride...I'd like everyone to be comfortable.

I'm confused. Karla and George you are both on the not going list... are you going?

      July 2, 2014

    • Karla C

Hi Kay. We ARE both going + my friend. I did not reply No, but that has been in that state for over a week. I believe that may have happened automatically because you limited and closed the RSVP and there was not even an option to waitlist. If you open it again, we can add ourselves to the trip. Also - I'll be able to find this post more easily since it will automatically be listed in my upcoming activities in meetup.

Hi! I'd love to join but wondering if anyone is interested in kayaking instead of climbing for this weekend (haven't climbed before & a water activity would be awesome). Also if anyone has room for 2 in their vehicle. I don't drive and am in NYC.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
