Hi,I'm a bit fanatical about kayaking. It is fun, a great way to see nature up-close, and for me a spiritual practice of sorts
As much as possible. Sometimes a lot, sometimes not as much as I would like.
Wrestling bears not so much, had some too close for comfort encounters in Alaska. Jumping out of planes, not really but, hiking definitely.
Um, I'm an anthropologist so I like to hang out in developing countries and explore ethnic enclaves here at home. Like a lot of folks though I spend way, way too much time at my desk staring at my screen (and daydreaming about outdoor adventures lol.)
Um, have to give it some thought. I've had more than my share.

Hi, Diana! Happy New Year! I did my MA in Modern Chinese History at Columbia. My advisor was C. Martin Wilbur. My thesis was entitled "Extinguishing the Communist Wind": Origins of the Retreat from the Great Leap Forward in China". After graduation, I became a Social Studies teacher in Brooklyn. I have tried to keep up with my Chinese intermittently for the past 40 years with great difficulty because I was not able to use it on a regular basis. Look forward to meeting you at a future meetup.
Apologies for the late reply--it's been a crazy week before the holiday break, but I also enjoyed meeting you at the Vegetarian Oasis dinner gathering al fresco. I speak a bit of Mandarin and Cantonese, but yours is probably better than mine as I'm out of practice :P, but I'm always happy to chat!
Hi Diana! Welcome to the group! I hope you will be enjoying all the meetups this group has to offer, as much as we do. We're only a few days old, but we're building up steam real quick. Summer is already half way done, so I'm working on adding more events for the fall. If you have any event suggestions please let me know.
I hope to see you soon at one of our meetups. We can certainly chat in putonghua as well as in English, while enjoying some Longjing tea! ~Angela
