Hosney Abdelgelil , Lead Organizer/Co-Founder



Hosney is the Project Controls Director of Hill International, Inc for the New York Region. He leads and manages a staff of schedulers, estimators, engineers and architects successfully supporting business operations through pre-construction and construction phases of the projects within the region.

Hosney is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of Program and Construction Management experience in various disciplines of Construction and Related Business Development activities. His experience has been acquired in a wide range of projects including educational facilities, commuter systems, residential, commercial and public buildings, entertainment and cultural facilities, airports, manufacturing facilities, correctional institutions and courthouses among others. Hosney’s work and research is focused on new and proven technologies to improve the efficiency of the design and construction processes.

He is a BIM enthusiast who is concentrating on promoting, training and researching all issues related to BIM. His current focus is the start up and operation of the new upcoming center for BIM in New York City “BIMplex”. This center is aimed at creating a platform for all BIM applications in both professional and academic fields of interest. This regional knowledge hub is now in the planning phase.

Mr. Abdelgelil holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Cairo University, an M.S. in Construction Engineering and Management from New Jersey Institute of Technology, a Graduate Project Management Certification from Bremen University, Germany and is currently a PhD Student at Stevens Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), the National Director of Building Information Modeling for the PMI - College of Scheduling, and a member of the National BIM Standard Committee for the National Institute of Building Sciences and Building Smart Alliance.

Stephen Thomson, Organizer/Co-Founder



Steve is the Principal of Thomson Architects PC. After attending an AIA technology conference in 2002, he began to embrace parametric modeling (BIM) because he believed that the use of information technology would give rise to new opportunities for optimization of quality, time and costs thorough improved visualization, organization and shared information. Most importantly, it offered the kind of benefits he valued most -- enhanced communication and waste reduction. Steve was an early proponent of environmental design strategies and is a LEED accredited professional.

He graduated from UC Berkeley and SUNY Buffalo. Prior to founding Thomson Architects PC, Mr. Thomson worked for Abraham W Geller Associates, New York State Dormitory Authority, and Steven Winter Associates. He has been a lecturer at SUNY Buffalo, Pratt Institute and guest critic at Columbia University.

Stephen A Jones, Organizer/Co-Founder



Steve is a Senior Director of McGraw-Hill Construction, the world’s leading source of information and analysis specifically relating to the AEC industry. Steve Jones focuses on studying the impact of economic, technological and environmental changes on the future of the industry, and is highly regarded internationally as a speaker on these topics. In addition Steve leads McGraw-Hill Construction’s initiatives in developing alliance relationships with major companies and organizations for technology and content.

Steve is active in numerous industry initiatives including the BuildingSMART Alliance, the Construction Users Roundtable, the AGC BIM Forum and the TC Chan Center for Building Simulation and Energy Studies.

Before joining McGraw-Hill, Steve was a Vice President with Primavera Systems, a leading provider of project management software. Prior to that, Steve spent 19 years in creative and management roles with design firms. Most recently he was a Principal and Board of Directors member with Burt Hill, a 1,400-person global A/E firm.

Steve holds a MBA from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from The Johns Hopkins University.

Snigdha Mittal, Assistant Organizer - Lead Programs, Events & Professional Certifications



Ms. Snigdha Mittal has over ten years of extensive Architectural & Interiors design background with broad technical experience. Her work ranges from large-scale urban design and planning projects to institutional, hospitality, residential & commercial complexes. She has worked in Middle East, India, UK & the US and has collaborated with a vast array of design professionals of international repute. She has played a key role in a number of design firms with high end detailing.

Snigdha is a BIM enthusiast and a current user. Considering the tremendous momentum in the BIM/VCD movement, she likes to stay educated on the trends, emerging technology and efficient design and construction techniques. She is an assistant organizer with the New York Metro BIM Group for the Building Smart Alliance / National Institute of Building Sciences. She also actively participates at various committees at AIA NY Chapter and also is currently the Chair for the Design Awards 09.

Joergen Geerds, Assistant Organizer - Media

Joergen is an architectural photographer, exhibiting artist and (interactive) art director. He stumbled onto this group for his interest in architecture and modern construction and handles some of the media efforts of the group. In his photography he specializes in panoramic urban architecture and landscapes. He won several awards for his art direction for IBM campaigns on the web, and is focussing is efforts now on his photography business and his fine art.

He graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Würzburg, Germany with a Diplom in Communication Design.
