All-Group Event: Xu Bing's Phoenix

Let's go to church on Sunday...for modern art!  We're going to experiment with a free gathering uptown.

Reminiscent of artists like Simon Rodia, Chinese contemporary artist Xu Bing converted discards from construction sites across the rapidly changing urban landscape of Beijing, and in two years of gathering transformed it into his most monumental project to date: Phoenix [masked]).

A feat of engineering and ingenuity, Phoenix is composed of two birds, a male called Fengand a female called Huang. Feng and Huang—together weighing 12 tons and measuring 90 and 100 feet long, respectively—are now on view at the Cathedral. They hang suspended in the Nave, two majestic birds in perpetual flight beneath its celestial ceiling.

Let's try meeting up around 3:00 and if we like, stick around for a choral performance at 4:00.  Around 4:30 we'll head down to a coffee shop to be determined to discuss!

Thanks so much to our member Marbell for suggesting this meetup!

My vote is with Hungarian pastry shop, but then I'm biased: pastries = love.

I did a story on the owner of BISTRO 1018 which is right down the street from the church. He's a great guy. I recommend it as a possible "coffee after" spot.
