Speaker Bio:  Yunting Sun is working on statistical modeling and experimental design for Google. Before that she was a PhD student in Statistics at Stanford University.

Preparation:
Install R packages glmnet

Overview:

We will introduce lasso, ridge regression and elastic net regularization method which is widely used for variable selection problems.

    Slides 26-28 indicated that LASSO had the lowest median(mse) among the 3 methods.
    As I said, the comparison might be slightly faulty because each method was run against a different random sample.
    The table below shows additional trial runs using the same code but different random seeds. Note that Ridge Regression had the lowest median(mse) in Trial Run #1.
