2012 Open Steet Map Meeting Up

There hasn't been a meet up for this group since 2009, but lots of new members are joining all the time, so there is interest in the topic! Does anyone have a place in the NYC metro that will host a meet up?

Peter, thanks for the insight - back room - Doh! No, wasnt Dan the bartender, but we both asked extensively and couldn't find our way. Anyway, very much looking forward to the next meetup

    Sean,
Meet up was in back room. Your check in comment mentions talking to Dan (bartender.) Am surprised he didn't say we were in back... I think the last person left around 9:00 PM. It was an informal meeting, a brief look at JOSM, OMS website, wikimapia and introductions. There was a lot of small group discussion about personal projects and info on other GIS groups. Liz offered to host the next meeting at Parson (date is TBD.) Sara and I plan to join forces to figure out JOSM, et al.

How many people actually showed up? Got there an hour late and seems everyone had cleared out.

What is the actual topic of today's meetup? I don't believe that has been announced?

We have a space! I called Bar None and they agreed to reserved half of the back room and a projector. They don't serve food, but don't mind if you bring your own. See you Wednesday night.

I'm actually going to try to bring my Parsons class to this OSM meetup tomorrow night. Sara, sure, what are the dates and how many people and what facilities do you need? i can try to find something at school.

Liz, can we steal that offer for the crisismappers NYC group too please? I'm talking to Bar None (which is lovely and grungy) today again...

Bar None could be good and a bit grungy. ive attended several meetups in their back room which has a good projector screen. I have to teach on Wednesday nights unfortunately :( but in the future we can look into reserving space at Parsons The New School for design if that is of interest.

I'm game. No bar won't mind a flash mob of GIS folks, as long as some are drinking or eating. I might break out in hives for lack of an Internet connection, but talking is good. My random bar selector choose Bar None. It is a finicky random selector and can be dissuaded without much convincing. Unless someone comes up with a better spot...see you all on Wednesday.

I noticed a couple of other meetups that are trying to meet at some pubs like Lillie's Victorian Bar & Restaurant on 13 E. 17th Street or at Bar None at the East Village. Maybe we can just take over part of a hotel lobby bar or just make it a social event at a nice bar/pub.

Does anyone have a place we could meet on Wednesday PM? Lots of folks want to meet, but no place. =(

How about warming up with a quick walk through the major OMS resources: the offline client JOSM, the online client, the best place to download OMS maps: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ and some of the related websites like http://wikimapia.org that use OMS.

There are so many talented folks that came to the NY GIS meetup, that I am sure the conversation will quickly get lively and informative!

Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Op... for lot of info on OSM.

I just realized that I am not gonna be able to attend :( I am gonna see if someone from the office want to host it, but if someone else know another place to have the meeting that will be super. If not I will not be back in NY until 6th of March.

Javier, if you RSVP there will be three people attending and I think that is what it takes for the Meet Up will appear on the calendar. Hopefully more people will participate once the event is listed on the calendar. Looking forward to hang out of OpenStreetMap enthusiasts. I will check out the GEO_NY meeting too.

This meetup comes in great timing with the Association for American Geographers (AAG) conference in New York Feb 24-28. I would love to meet other OSM enthusiasts in NY.
