A beginning for Ignorance (Avijja) can't be discerned but a specific cause for it is evident. This Sutta, AN 10.61, lays out the Buddha's insights on this issue. Also on the docket is SN 36.31 Not-of-The-Flesh in which the Buddha compares and contrasts the pleasures and rapture of the flesh with their higher counterparts.
