Museum mile and Central Park ... At night!

Hello everyone! It's been a bit of time since my last email and since then, our group has inched closer and closer to 1,000 members. A think we should celebrate the 1,000th fellow photo enthusiast by going out for drinks and having the 1,000 member take care of the bill. :) In any case, I've received a few messages from new members and veterans to the group and I've been awful with regards to replying to them. To some, I'll address you emails at the end of this one. I thought we could welcome spring by getting together on a crisp March evening and do a little Central Park touring. It seems like a popular and heavily visited location but it is surprisingly different at night. The park is taken over by joggers and romantic walks, the haute and bustle of the day give way to cool nights, calm evenings and great chances to capture iconic NYC images at night. So for our next meetup, I was thinking we could the museum mile (starting at 79th street and 5th) and make our way up to the Guggenheim and into the Jackie O reservoir. From there, we'll stroll through the park to make our way back towards the great lawn and finish once again at 79th but on the west side to capture the American Museum of natural history. To reward our walking and photographic efforts, we'll have a post-walk drink in a great spot for those of you that are fans of bar food. Interested? Come join us! I always try and make the outings friendly to all photographic skill levels and walking enthusiasts. Walks are leisurely, at your own pace and nobody is asked to do more than they want or can. All photo levels are encouraged, from a smart phone shooter to the most advanced camera, the idea is for everyone to come out and share with fellow photographers. In the coming weeks / months I'll be organizing outings to visit spots we've done in the past but our newest members did not have a chance to take part in. Hope to see you next Friday at 6.30 pm! Best Gus (Please excuse any typos, I posted this from my phone)

People started to arrive there around 6:15 as the meetup was scheduled for 6:30. I myself arrived at 6:35 and Gus had just arrived a minute or two ahead of me. We waited until at least 7:00 pm before leaving. What time did you think it was for Laurence?

Great night in the park. A terrific opportunity to explore the park at night which I would never do on my own. Good company burgers and beer to finish the evening, what more could you want? Very cool meetup.

I left after 2.5 hours because it seemed like you guys were going to go for another[masked] minutes! But I enjoyed meeting the group and Gus and had it been a warmer evening, I might have stuck it out. Hopefully I got a few decent shots since I was shooting handheld. Next time I will bring my tripod and cable release!

Cool....see you guys tomorrow..It will be my first meetup....Loooking forward to learn something about low light exposure and night photography :)

    Hi.
I am thinking about doing this photo walk depending on the weather and if the people at work, I teach in The Bronx, go out for our pre spring break happy hour.I should know by Tuesday. I At which place were you thinking about doing to post photo walk drink. I ask as I will be driving in from NJ. It would help to know if I am parking on the East or West side. I also would like to know if a tripod is nessesary and also because its $1.00 I can pay when I show up?

    March 18, 2013

    • Dianne

Oh I'm definitely bringing my tripod.

      March 21, 2013

    • Laurence E. S.

Dianne that would mean ahide camera bad teo lenses and a tripod not the lightest equpitment to carry.

      March 21, 2013

  • Laura

Will we be progressing at a leisurely pace to be able to set up tripod and/or have time to evaluate light and exposure? I'm sorta new to low light situations and want to practice. Thanks!

    March 21, 2013

  • Laura

Awesome! I'm buying a tripod tomorrow specifically for this event (I don't own one yet anyway). See you there!

    March 21, 2013

  • Renee_W

depends on weather. Any chance on doing this walk when it is warmer?

    March 16, 2013

    • Gus

We can always repeat it :)

      March 20, 2013

    • Laura

Definitely repeat! The light is constantly changing as the seasons march on (obviously). Sounds like a great time!

      March 21, 2013

  • Trish

Wish I could make it, but I will be out of town. Hope to see you all soon.

Event sounds like a lot of fun...wish I could join the group.

I have class that day and a ton of stuff to carry. I can dump most of it back at my office but I will have to travel light. Perhaps one lens and and mono pod. Sometimes it's good to work with limitations

    March 18, 2013

  • Dianne

Really looking forward to this! Can't wait to take some great shots

    March 18, 2013

  • ruth g.

    depending on the weather

    March 16, 2013

  • Chris L.

Hmmm, thinking a tripod is cheaper than a fast lens!!

    4 · March 16, 2013

  • John D.

Well this looks like fun but it's going to lead to trouble. Now I'm looking for fast lenses. My favorite is an f4 zoom. I could buy that[masked] but that will lead to divorce :-)
