UPDATED: MARCH 29,2014
Due to the forecast of 80% chance of rain, this event has been re-scheduled from Saturday 3/29/14 to Saturday 4/5/14. The time and location remains the same. Please adjust your RSVP if needed. Thank you.
Please note that this is NOT a contest and there is no prize.
It's NYCP's 4th Anniversary!! Our very first meetup event was at Central Park on March 27, 2010 and I would like to continue our tradition of hosting a photowalk on the last Saturday of March.
This year, weather permitting, we will meet at the Central Park entrance at 59th Street / Columbus Circle in front of the statue, and we will walk uptown. There is no planned route, so make sure you are at the meetup point on time!!! The nearest subway station is 59th Street / Columbus Circle (A, B, C, D, 1). If you are driving in, DO NOT use the meetup map. Use Google Map instead.
Here is the challenge: bring only a prime lens, whether it’s a 35mm, 50mm, 60mm, 100mm -- it doesn’t matter as long as it’s a prime lens. Using a prime lens will limit you to that one focal length and test yourself to compose your photographs without depending on a zoom lens - and then, post-process your images in Black & White. I thank our fellow photographer and my talented friend, Boris Gorelik for this idea.
Please note that this is NOT a contest and there is no prize. This is just to help you improve your skill as a photographer. For references, I’ve posted the two links below:

If you do not have a prime lens and would like to rent one, you can visit Adorama on 18th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, or at B&H Photo on the corner of 34th Street and 9th Avenue.
If you don't have a prime lens and don't want to rent one, just select one focal length on your zoom lens (I suggest 35mm or 50mm), and use non-sticky tape to secure the barrel of your lens - which will prevent you from zooming in or out. Remember -- you are only allowed to shoot at one focal length throughout the entire meetup. Otherwise it would defeat the purpose of the challenge.
Also, Fidel V. mentioned below to “crop with your camera” - meaning when you’re shooting with a prime lens, you are forced to physically move towards or away from your subject to compose your image. Therefore, avoid cropping while you’re editing. This would also defeat the purpose of shooting at one focal length, as well as losing pixels / resolution in your images.
There are 16 public restrooms in Central Park: http://www.centralpark.com/guide/general-info/restrooms.html
As usual, please be on time. Give yourselves plenty of time to travel. There is no planned route. I will not wait for latecomers and will not answer my phone after 11am.
Pack light, but bring snacks and bottled water, unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for these within the park. Dress appropriately for the weather, wear comfy walking shoes, bring charged batteries and empty memory cards.
Details of this event may be added or changed at any time, so please check in periodically on this page.
I hope you will join me. If you have any questions, post it on this event page, call or text me a message before the day of the event, or you can email me through my meetup profile. Please make sure you identify yourself in your message so I know who you are.
