Re: [The-NYC-Basic-Photographers-Meetup-Group] Staten Island Meetup

Johm and I were both showed up late and neither one of us found the group. Perhaps a cell phone could be indicated so that members can call to find the group?

That would be very helpful, thanks.

Subject: [The-NYC-Basic-Photographers-Meetup-Group] Staten Island Meetup

Folks,

i was surprised, even shocked, at the very low turn-out at the Cloisters meetup.

Cathy hosted, and she couldn't have picked a more perfect venue nor beautiful day. i think six people showed up out of three hundred. even more convenient was the fact that it was a central location for everyone.

Staten Island is a hell of a trip; it is for me anyway as i live in Pelham Bay in the Bronx. i dont really fancy travelling the whole way to the tip of Manhattan, grabbing a ferry to SI and then a bus to get to a location where there may be very few people or no-one at all. if anyone in the group lives closer and would like to take over the organization of the SI meetup, please let me know and i will post you as the host and contact person.

when i setup this group i paid the organizers fee for six months - $12pm. i will not be renewing the fee. i am letting you know now so-as someone may be able to step up to the plate and keep the group going if they so wish. i may plan a few more meetups in manhattan in the coming two months.

i enjoy the field trips but see little point in organizing meetups that there is so little interest in. one of the great advantages of meetup is the no-cost, no effort factor and in essence that is one of its greatest disadvantages also. as there is no cost, there is no cost for a no show, so no big deal. the difference between meetups and clubs is like comparing two ends of a spectrum. there seems to be attachment, a committment, even a love for a club whereas with meetup, everything seems so non committal - will i or wont i - and that simple question causes confusion.

so, if anyone is available, please contact me and the meetup will go ahead. if not, i will cancel this meetup next Friday, which is one week before the meetup is due.

as i said already, yesterday was very disappointing, it couldnt have been a more perfect day nor a more unique setting.

Thanks, David.
