Notes for Free Summer Workshop: Manual Mode on Saturday 9/24/11 @ 1pm

From: Sally
Sent on: Monday, September 19, 2011 12:08 PM

Hello Fellow Photographers!!

This Saturday is Brooklyn Born’s fourth and final summer workshop, where we will take the three features we learned: Aperture, Shutter Speed & ISO – and control them all in Manual Mode!!!

Currently 89 people RSVPed “yes” for this workshop.  Usually we get a turnout of less than 50% of people at our events.  If you are not going to show up, please be courteous and change your RSVP to “no” before the 12noon deadline. It would be nice to get a good estimate of how many people Brooklyn and I will actually be waiting for.

As of today, the forecast for this workshop is mostly sunny, high 73 degrees.  Dress appropriately for the weather; wear sunscreen and bring water to stay hydrated. (Since we're going into Central Park, I recommend you to bring bug repellent - just in case).

Also, bring a pen, a notepad, your SLR/DSLR camera and very important - your camera's user manual for reference. Make sure your battery is fully charged and your memory cards are formatted.

We are meeting at the fountain at 59th Street and 5th Avenue. This workshop starts at 1pm sharp, so please be on time. After 1pm, we will enter Central Park to find a spot and begin the lesson.  I will not answer any calls or texts after 1pm; this will disrupt the lesson.

Note: If the forecast changes to rain, I will send out an email the night before the event and move it to the Sony Plaza, located at 56th Street and Madison Avenue.

Brooklyn and I urge everyone to please review your camera's user manual so you know how to access and change the basic features (Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, Meter and Focus Modes). We cannot stress this enough!  Everyone has a different camera!

Important: Brooklyn is asking that you do not take his picture; otherwise, the workshop will be cancelled on the spot!!!

I cannot promise more or repeated workshops. Free workshops in general are rare and it all depends on the instructor's schedule and willingness.

As Brooklyn mentioned in his notes on the event page, you will not be a pro at Manual Mode after this workshop.  You must practice, practice, practice!!! Come to our other events and practice, practice, practice!!! If you can’t make it to some of our events, make time for yourself. Refer to your user manual, go outside and practice, practice, practice!!!  Practicing is the only way you will be able to take full control of your camera and enhance your photographic skill.

If you have any questions regarding shooting in Manual Mode, please feel free to post them on our message boards, and our more experienced photographers - like Brooklyn, will be happy to answer them.

You can contact me anytime before 1pm Saturday, if you are having trouble finding me by the fountain.

See you all there!! ~ Sally
