I hope you are doing fine. My ankle is healing. I’m no longer crutching through New York. I hope I’ll be completely recovered but the mid of December. I want to thank you for all the well wishes I have received. Thank you for the very warm gesture.
If everything works out, I’ll be hosting one more Meetup before Christmas, so stay tuned.
In the meantime, I suggest you take a look at two photography events happening on December 8 & December 15.
December 8 is the INTERNATIONAL HELP PORTRAIT DAY, a day where photographers get together in their local community, take pictures of people in need and deliver the pictures when they are ready.
This is the read from their website:
“This is about GIVING the pictures, not taking them. These portraits are not for your portfolio, website, or for sale. Money isn’t involved here. This holiday season, you have the chance to give a family something they may have never had before—a portrait together.
Our mission? Our mission at Help-Portrait is simply to equip and mobilize you, the photography community. We want to make sure you have all the information that you need to successful participate in Help-Portrait on 08 December 2012. We want to help you find other people in your area that are wanting to be part of Help-Portrait or have already begun to plan the event. We want you to have the opportunity to give.“
I was part of a Help Portrait event last year. We took pictures of kids housing in the Children’s Incarnation Center in North Manhattan. This was my most enjoyable and emotional fulfilling photo shoot so far. I’ll be going back to those kids this year. There are plenty of groups organizing photo shoots in different parts of the city. So go online and check out the website. It’s also a great way to connect with other photographers, to learn or teach. If you are interested in joining me at the Incarnation Center, please email me through meetup. We are still looking for 3-4 people.
The Second event is also a Help Portrait event, but one week later and specifically focused on the victims of hurricane Sandy. There is a Facebook group I recommend to check out. Sandy Relief Help-Portrait NYC (Free Family Portraits) https://www.facebook.com/groups/498860610153588/
This group is organizing photo shoots at several locations in Far Rockaway and Coney Island.
Have fun should you participate in those events. I truly believe that these people in need don’t only appreciate the final picture. Your smile, your laugh, your conversation, distraction and the feeling “someone cares” will help them to have a very enjoyable day. And I’m sure, so will you.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! :)
