Learn how to navigate through Linux desktop. For instance create directories, access different files, and delete files/directories. We will be using live USBs to access Ubuntu (a Linux distribution) so don't worry if you don't have the operating system  on your machine. Git will also be covered. If you stay till the end you might get a taste of the next session- python in Linux!

Preparation: Signup for a Github account here and bring a wireless enabled laptop!

Slides: Click here to follow along and review on your own later.

Instructor Bio: Shadhin Rahman is a Systems and Integration Engineer with 7 years of Linux experience, primarily in a Redhat environment. His expertise is in the Perl programming language with some exposure to Python. Shadhin holds a Computer Science degree from SUNY New Paltz and a masters in Finance from CUNY's Baruch College.

RSVPs close 12p the day of. Be sure to make/change your RSVP before then for accuracy.

**We will be raffling off Ubuntu books among those Pearson has generously donated at the end.**

Friendly, fun environment. I solidified my base knowledge of Linux.

My only question is... didn't this meetup happen on Thursday? Or did it happen on both Thursday and Friday?

Oh. The date for this event was changed to Friday right after Thursday.

Oh, that is an error. I don't know if it has anything to do with meetup's issues that week

The handout pdf is wonderful, thank you Shadhin Rahman! Two little notes; 1.On a mac, all the commands except obviously dpkg/apt work , with the exception that there is no such messages, so instead this file can be peeked, /var/log/system.log; 2.The final slide probably should say 'rich' set of tools, though github definitely has alot of reach... :)
