Hack & Chat and learn about the Jux stack!

On Wednesday, Oct. 10, we will be joined by Aidan Feldman, developer at Jux, who will discuss the Jux development stack.

Come join NYC Ruby Women for an evening of hacking and chatting on Oct. 10, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)

Our schedule:

- 15 minutes of lightning talks

We’re looking forward to seeing what you’re working on and what questions you might have that’ll help you move forward.

- 45 minutes of instruction

Aidan Feldman is a full-stack developer doing Ruby and Javascript at Jux.com.  When not cranking out open source projects or mustachifying the internet, Aidan can be found performing with various modern dance companies around the city.  He’s the organizer of Hacker Hours and EDU Hack Day, and teaches Advanced Javascript
at NYU.

- 1 hour of open coding

Bring your project in progress or a new project idea and we’ll hack!

Have fun! I'm staying late at work working on a project (better than doing it this weekend!).

is NYC Ruby Women exclusively for women?

    October 9, 2012

    • Rachel O.

Hi John! NYC Ruby Women is for women or those who identify themselves on the female gender spectrum. We try to have a open, safe and welcoming environment for women to come learn and teach each other. If the above doesn't fit your desires, we also from time to time invite other members in the NYC Ruby community to come and present on topics if that is something that interests you. We also have other general events with speakers that men are invited to attend, but we ask that you bring a female with you as your +1 so that she too can get introduced to Ruby. Please feel free to contact me or Chrys with any further questions or concerns!

Hi everyone. I am having problems using Ruby. I have the Ruby Installer and Sublime Text 2 installed on my pc laptop. I can type in code but there is no way for me to compile or that I do not know how. I'm hoping to attend on the 10th but I would at least like to play with Ruby before then. Help! :(

Hey Christina -- My husband who is also learning Ruby had this same confusion. I'm thinking of putting together a study guide on the Command Line. If you haven't figured it out yet -- you need to go Programs and search for "Start Command Prompt with Ruby". You'll need to go to the directory where your code is by doing "cd ~/file_name/" (cd stands for 'change directory'). Then type "ruby your_program.rb"

Hi Ivy, thanks for joining. I'm sorry that you won't be able to make it and that it conflicts with your class schedule. We try to rotate days, and lately we've been doing it on Wednesday nights once a month. Starting in January we'll be setting up a new year of Meetups and we will try our best to vary it!
