I started this group for the more leisurely paced rider who enjoys riding slower like I do, but who enjoys exploring in and around NYC for day-long adventures. A typical ride would start at 11am and include about 5 hours of riding plus a few hours of stopping to relax or eat, the riding would be at about an average comfortable 7-8 mph pace - this is in contrast to many other groups that expect a 12 mph minimum pace. Let's just relax and enjoy it!  A ride would include stopping to eat mid-way or at the end to relax and socialize, the goal would be to hopefully end the ride by about 6pm (before dark). Some example rides I've organized:

1. the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway (32 miles).

2. Through Harlem, up across the Broadway Bridge into Riverdale Bronx, down to explore the trails by the Spuyten Dival stop, by the incredible Riverdale homes, across the Henry Hudson Bridge, around in Inwood Park.

3. From Manhattan - cross the Brooklyn Bridge, ride along the promenade, down through the abandoned factory area in Red Hook, out onto the pier at the Brooklyn Army Terminal, then under the Verrazano Bridge, along the waterfront and past Cony Island, then take the subway back.

4. From Williamsburg through Queens along various bike paths to Riis Park beach, a cooling dip (if you have your bathing suit on under your riding clothes) and relaxation, refuel at a local restaurant, and take the subway back.

Rides are open ended and flexible, helmets optional (I don't wear one), sandals and Birkenstocks are acceptable footwear!  If a detour or side-road looks interesting, let's take it. If you're tired and want to peel off from the group and take the nearest subway back, that's ok too!
