UPDATE:
Lottery Registration (January 17 – February 7)
Last year general tour registration sold out within 24-hours, leaving many eager cyclists without the opportunity to ride. This year we are switching to a lottery registration system to ensure that bicyclists who want to participate will have a more fair and equitable chance. You can enter the lottery at any point between January 17 at 10:00 AM and February 7 at 5:00 PM. There is a nonrefundable $6 lottery registration fee for each person entering the lottery. Once the lottery registration period closes we will send out e-mail notifications to inform you of your status. If you do not gain entry to the tour via the lottery system, you can still ride with one of our charity partners or as a VIP. Click HERE for more registration details.

The Five Boro Bike Tour is the largest mass cycling event in the USA, will have approximately 30,000 cyclists.
Taking place the first Sunday in May each year, the adventure starts in Lower Manhattan. The ride heads north through the heart of Manhattan into Central Park and continues on to historic Harlem and the Bronx, returning south along the East River on the FDR Drive. From there it crosses into Queens and then Brooklyn, where cyclists take over the highway before making the thrilling climb up—and down—the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to Staten Island. The route is 42 miles, mostly flat except for the bridges.
The ride lands on Staten Island at a lively outdoor Festival, including bike demos, giveaways, games, a wonderful food concession, product samples, stretching, massage, a photo booth, and official merchandise on sale. Leave plenty of time to check out the exhibitors and activities and then visit the Fort Wadsworth Overlook for a scenic photo before continuing the final three miles to the ferry.
If you'd like to watch, good vantage points are the overpass by the FDR Drive at 79th Street, Manhattan (9am-11.45am), Greenpoint Avenue between McGuinness and Franklin, Brooklyn (10.30am-1pm), and Fulton Landing in Brooklyn (11am-2pm).
Regular registration for the TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour Presented by Eastern Mountain Sports sold out in one day in 2011, and we expect the Tour to fill quickly again in 2012.
I know of 3 including myself who were selected. I'll send out a notice to all the RSVP's to ask for updates so we can have a better idea now that everyone has been notified. I'm assuming everyone has put that they're "recreational" when they fill out the registration, otherwise you'll probably get a different start time than the rest.
Oh snap. I already chose myself "fitness" while registering. Is it a big deal? Is the route different? Or do you think I can join you guys after starting?
I have no idea how strict they are about adhering to the start time they assign you - the registration says they are introducing staggered start times this year to help alleviate the crowding, which I presume means the faster categories start earlier, and the slowest (recreational) start last. I'll call them today to ask if it's ok to start later than the time you're assigned (you may be able to ask them to change your registration too)
I just called and changed "fitness" into "recreational" see you guys there then? :D
