Quality Assistance @ Spotify

Creating a unique and seamless user experience is one of Spotify’s biggest priorities, which is why we rely heavily on our QA team to ensure all functions are running effectively. Want to learn how we do our testing at Spotify? Come join us for an exciting night where our amazing QA team will delve into their testing approach, the tools we use, and insight into the life of a tester at Spotify. If that’s not incentive enough…there will be beer!

6:30 - 7:00: Mix and Mingle

7:00 - 7:15: Meetup Intro

7:15 - 7:30: Olof Svedström - What we choose to do with our precious time and why?

Olof Svedström (test lead at Spotify Stockholm, Sweden) talks about how we testers at Spotify try to handle the fast changes, high release tempo and complex functionality within our development environment. What mantras are in the back of our heads when we make decisions about our do´s and dont´s?

7:30 - 7:45: Kurt Wasserman - Bug Tracking Prime Directive: To explore and communicate Bug/Task Tracking Best Practices with respect to the QA process

Kurt Wasserman (Test Lead at Spotify New York) talks about how to get team members to embrace their bug/task tracker.  A few guidelines are presented to ease reluctant users into making meaningful use of their tracking software of choice.

7:45 - 8:00: Matt Cohen - Quality Assistance: Exploratory Testing based on how your customer uses the product

Matthew Cohen (QA Engineer at Spotify NYC) discusses the importance of creative testing based on the habits of your customers. Understanding how customers use your product is crucial when formulating scenarios to ensure a high quality release.

8:00 - 8:15: Q/A and Wrap Up.

This meetup is not to be missed. One lucky audience member will be selected to win a Free Month of Spotify Premium. For those who can't make it, we also do weekly Twitter contests every Tuesday #TuneInTuedays so follow us @Spotifyjobs

Interesting to hear methodologies used by Spotify for testing quality. I loved the part in which Matt actually went around the city testing the app with varying signal strengths. It will be good to see a deeper dive into the automation tools beyond the overview given for the state transition tests.
