Saturday Afternoon Trivia - NY Burger Co at 23rd & 10th on Feb 9

Okay gang. A Saturday afternoon of trivia at the NY Burger Co. We should be in the front section. Take any Manhattan subway to 23 Street & take the crosstown M23 bus going WEST to 10th Avenue, where the High Line is. If you have a NY Burger Co. card, bring it so they can punch off a meal. 10 meals punched off gets you a free one. Games we're playing are:

CAN YOU BEAT KEN - try to answer more questions that Jeopardy champ Ken Jennings, who was asked EVERY question in this game.

MENTAL FLOSS - questions for the left and right sides of your brain. Try to spot the BIG FAT LIE.

ADVERTEASING - about commercial slogans and jingles

TRIVIAL PURSUIT - we'll play some version of it

SMART ASS - be the first to call out the right answer, but only one guess pr clue

There will be two tables of games. Spike's table will have Trivial Pursuit and Smart Ass. My table will have the other games.

All righty, now here are some questions for you:

1 What comic from Saturday Night Live starred in the movie Groundhog Day?

2 Which former first lady fought to save Grand Central Terminal from being demolished? TRIVIA TIDBIT - Grand Central Terminal is 100 years old this month.

3 Besides Ed Koch and Mike Bloomberg, who were the other two mayors of NYC elected to a third term?

4 Ed Koch served as the presiding judge for two seasons on what TV show?

5 Patty Andrews recently died. What were the first names of the other two Andrews Sisters?

6 What year was the first Super Bowl played? Bonus - who were the teams and who won?

So sign up and join us. Hope you can make it

A few no shows, but that's understandable given the weather. A total of 11 at two tables. Spike's table had him winning two games of Smart Ass and Trivial Pursuit. Cathy won the other Smart Ass game. At my table, it was Chris' day. He and Lisa won Adverteasing and he and Angela won Can You Beat Ken. Lots of fun and socializing. One newcomer, Troy joined us. Teach and Chuck came as well. Definitely a good time.

Best thing I learned today was Joe Namath's response on being asked whether he preferred grass or Astroturf: "I don't know. I've never smoked Astroturf."

It was mentioned previously that I will wait to see how much snow falls. By tomorrow morning everyone will be notified as to whether or not this is still on.

Game trivia: Monopoly was invented on this day in 1935. I'm glad the new piece will be a cat but I'm going to miss the iron. That was a nice flat piece and stayed nicely on the board. They should have gotten rid of the wheelbarrow; that always fell over on the gameboard.

The cat beat out several others for the new token, including the robot, guitar, and helicopter

unfortunately, the forecasted snow will keep me in the Bronx :(

    February 6, 2013

Based on how much snow falls in Manhattan, I'll decide by Saturday morning if we go through with the meetup.

TRIVIA TIDBITS - Ronald Reagan was born on February 6, 1911. He'd be 102 if he were still with us. Also, the ever popular Zsa Zsa Gabor is 96 yars old today (2/6).

I guess I'm late, I didn't realize the questions had already been answered. I saw Patti and Maxine in "Over Here" in 1974. The best part was at the end when they sang all theirold hits.
