Sunday Afternoon Trivia - Cosi at 8th St on Feb. 17

  • Feb 17, 2013 · 3:00 PM

Hey gang. Let's have a Sunday afternoon of trivia. Cosi has comfy seats, good food and FREE refills on sodas. Games we're playing include:

MENTAL FLOSS - questions for the left and right sides of your brain. Try to spot the "big fat lie."

TRI-BOND - try to figure out what three things have in common - example, Yogi, Smokey, Paddington

ULTIMATE TV TRIVIA - question about TV in five different categories

TRIVIAL PURSUIT - Ed will have the 25th Anniversary and Baby Boomer editions

CHRONOLOGY - put events on your cards in the correct chronological order

CASH CAB - based on the TV show

I'll bring the top three games at my table. Ed will have the others at his table. Now here are your questions:

1 What two presidents on Mount Rushmore have birthdays in February?

2 Who hosted the original version of Jeopardy from 1964 to 1975?

3 Who was the original host of Wheel of Fortune from 1975 to 1981?

4 What was the first item up for bids on the current versiion of The Price is Right when it debuted on September 4, 1972?

All righty, go get 'em, soldier!

It was a fun time and everyone got along, but the print on the question cards in Mental Floss was small and very hard for me to read. We also discovered a mistake on one of the question cards. I'm not quite sure if it was Thomas Edison or Alexander G. Bell who recorded "Mary had a little lamb." The card listed Edison as doing so. Not sure if that is correct.

I think the question was "what was the first spoken words on the telephone?" and they listed Edison as the inventer.

Did a Trivial Pursuit Trivia Game where I did my best but didn't win much this time, only 4 questions right in Baby Boomer but learned some new things like the sponsor of The Winchell Mahoney Time, then played Ultimate TV Trivia where I knew the answer to the relationship between the late Danny Thomas and Phil Donahue where the daughter of Danny Thomas Marlo Thomas or That Girl was married to Phil Donahue & knew the answer to one question of Is that the Final Answer on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Great afternoon of trivia with two first-timers, Koushik and Joel. My table played Mental Floss, Tri-Bond and Ultimate TV Trivia. Spike won Mental Floss. The team of Spike, Cathy & Joanne won Tri-Bond, and Spike, Perry & Ted won Ultimate TV Trivia. They beat out Cathy, Joanne & Chris in a tie breaker round. At Ed's table, Ted won Trivial Pursuit and Dana came in second. I will be away at a board game convention in New Jersey next weekend. The next trivia meetup will be on Saturday, March 2nd.
