Saturday Afternoon Trivia - Cosi at 8th St. on Jan. 19

  • January 19, 2013 · 3:00 PM

Hey there. I changed the appearance of the site a little for the New Year. Let's have a Saturday afternoon of trivia. Cosi at 8th Street has good food and FREE REFILLS on sodas. We're trying some NEW GAMES, namely:

GAMEFACE - look at the picture and try to identify the famous person, This is a team game.

I'M WITH STUPID - a trivia game with a party twist. Comes with a dunce cap.

AVALON HILL GAME OF TRIVIA - an old game from the 1980's. You thought Trivial Pursuit was hard - you ain't seen or heard nothin' yet.

In addition, Ed is bringing TRIVIAL PURSUIT and the TV GUIDE TRIVIA GAME. There will be two tables of games. Those arriving early (before 3 pm) will get a choice of where to sit.

So there you go. Now here are some trivia questions for you.

1 Jack Klugman played Oscar Madison on the Odd Couple. What was the name of the newspaper his character worked for as a sports writer?

2 What was the name of Oscar's ex wife?

3 The late Charles Durning played Big Daddy in a revival of what Broadway play based on a best-selling book?

4 Before she became Wheel of Fortune's letter turner, Vanna White was a contestant on what TV game show?

All righty, good luck.

At my table, the Toto team beat the Lassie team in Gameface, 100 -75. I'm With Stupid saw Cathy & Jack tie for the win. The Avalon Hill game had the Pink team of Angela, Elaine & Clark win, and Elaine won Guest Host. We had three newcomers, Dana, John & Tim. I hope we see them again. A very crowded Cosi with us and the Origamy Group there, but it all worked out.

Played a good long game of Baby Boomer & came in next to last or 5th place with, $17.00 & got 2 pie pieces. One was for Baby Boomer Publishing, which was answer to the character Snoopy dresses up as a human boy named Joe Cool & the other was Baby Boomer TV of which was Batman from 1966 the comic strip hero that came to TV with Adam West & Burt Ward. Also got another gimme question of Eva Gabor of the Gabor sisters was Lisa Douglas on Green Acres. Then played a quickie Guest Host of where I guessed Robert Redford of Barefoot in the Park & did clues on Judy Garland originally named Frances Gumm & Grace Kelly also a character played by Rhett Butler from the Nineties on Grace Under Fire.

Wow, what aday!! 18 of the 20 people who RSVPed showed up. plus Elaine and Alex. We had a THIRD TABLE of games run by Spike. They played Guest Host, Blast From the Past and Gameface. My table played Gameface, The Stupid Game, Avalon Hill Trivia and Guest Host. Ed's table played a long Trivial Pursuit game. The Stupid Game needs to be tweaked. Other than that a fun and enjoyable afternoon.

Depending on how many show up, there may be a THIRD table of games. I'm bringing a couple of extra games that I'll have Spike run if that becomes necessary.

For those on the waiting list, usually a few people cancel before or on the day of the meetup. There will also be a trivia meetup on Sunday, January 27. You'll be able to sign up for that this weekend.
