I’m looking for a Head of UX/UI for a tech-ED start-up here in NYC. The person needs to have a very good understanding of user experience and interactive design and be able to passionately apply it to an educational space.

Anyone interested? Know anyone?

Here are the specifics:

- Creates a brand and a user experience that’s engaging, intuitive, and insightful across all products.
- Works closely with Head of Product to create all designs and materials .
- Leads and oversees the creation and development of all front-end content.
- Interfaces with the coding team to ensure that all designed screens are possible and manageable.

- Lead status meetings and has full control, awareness and understanding of projects within the portfolio.
- Manages all graphic designers, creating consistency and cooperation.

- Visualizes data in a way that promotes synthesis and instruction.
- Recognizes patterns in both users and instructional materials.
- Creates clean/intuitive designs.
- Is detail oriented. (Read: perfectionist.)
- Understands the ‘why’ behind everything designed/created.
- Understands that asking for help and engaging in collaboration always result in better products.

Design guide:

The design that I'm looking for is one that we often find in infographics—one that combines multiple layers of seemingly unconnected information into an instantly intuitive narrative. With closer inspection, the facts behind the story are discovered and the user has both understood the gestalt as well as the miniscule.

The products, digital textbooks and courses, will be huge, interactive, multi-media infographics that are complemented by activities and quizzes.

VERY competitive. Full benefits.

Experience needed:

- At least 2 years as a lead designer. (This can’t be your first rodeo.)
- Graphic design, IA, and wireframes need to be top-notch.

More info:

The company: Transport Learning.

The goal: Overhaul education

How: Teach cognitive skills through VERY interactive tablet apps. Replace textbooks.

Why: Because cognitive skills are what make us 'smarter'. Cognitive skills are the new black. (And the US has just overhauled the learning standards to focus on cognitive skills, not facts.)

When: Full production starts in September. Prototype production started months ago.
