1) This group has a good track record of maintaining monthly book club meetings 2) I want to be part of a book club that reads good brainy books, not chick lit fluff or whatever entertaining but mindless book has come out recently. It may be a bit harsh, but if I'm going to sit around and discuss a book, I'd like the topics and themes to be about something meaningful 3) The book titles the club has read in the past are fantastic. I want to be pushed to read books like that.
Ayn Rand, John Steinbeck, John Cheever, Edgar Allan Poe, Thomas Hardy, Albert Camus, Victor Hugo, Salman Rushdie
Atlas Shrugged, Anthem, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, The Awakening, The Stranger, Ender's Game, The Stars My Destination, Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Jane Eyre, Como Agua Para Chocolate, any short story by Ray Bradbury, any short story by John Cheever, Leaves of Grass, East of Eden, Crime and Punishment, Les Miserables, Cien Anos de Soledad, Twelfth Night; or What You Will
I'm originally from California, but I grew up partly in Hong Kong, went to high school in Massachusetts, went to college at Duke for a year then transferred to Columbia. So I've been pretty all over the place. I'm currently working as a producer on a pilot pitch for a TV series, and hopefully if this succeeds, I'll fulfill my lifelong dream of working on films and television. If not, I deferred medical school so it's my backup plan. In my free time, I love photography, food, art, music, travel, languages, meeting people... pretty much life in general.
I'm a recent Columbia grad working in the city
