I have always loved books, book shops and reading and have been looking for a book group that is eclectic and social.
I am a literary omnivore and more likely to recommend a specific book than an author.
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy (my all time favorite), Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons (still the funniest book ever), The Woman in the Dunes by Kobo Abe, Behind the Scenes in the Museum by Kate Atkinson, The Front Runner by Patricia Nell Warren.
I grew up in NZ then went to Australia for college. I have also lived in the UK and India as well as several different states in the US. I have travelled extensively for business and for pleasure including a number of massive overland trips made with minimal planning. The one constant has been reading and I have spent many hours tracking down English language books in non-English speaking countries. It is amazing what one will read when there are few options (Chinese English language edition of the Count of Monte Christo anyone?). That said, NY is my home now and the only place that I want to live.
I am originally from New Zealand. Until recently I travelled extensively for work never spending no more than 4-5 nights in a row in my own bed. My new year's resolution for 2013 was not to do that any more!
