I am reaching out to you to ask for your help in recruiting participants for a study entitled, "Discrimination, Stigmatization, and Mental Health Issues among the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Population of Minority Groups." My name is Dr. Wahiba Abu-Ras, Assistant Professor at Adelphi University and I am the Principal Investigator of this study.
This study utilizes a voluntary online survey using SurveyMonkey (http://www.surveymonk...) to collect data on demographics, socio-cultural and race/ethnic background, sexual orientation, experiences of discrimination, social stigma, hate crimes, perception of social support, and level of openness. The survey will also include several open-ended questions on issues such as coming out experiences, self perception and identity, and experiences with discrimination based on ethnic/racial identity and sexual orientation. Participants must be: 18 years or older; and identify with the sexual orientation of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer. We are asking for your help by posting the advertisement for the online survey that we will send to you, which will include the link to the online survey. We are asking your support in disseminating this survey to all your members through one of the following methods: posting an advertisement on your website; emailing the advertisement to through your email database; advertise this ad in your organization?s weekly or monthly bulletin; or display a survey advertisement in your organizational space. Participation in this survey is voluntary, and no material compensation will be offered.
There are no obligations for anyone who does not wish to participate. We assure all participants that the data from this survey will be completely confidential and any self-disclosure will be used for research purposes only. Upon the participant?s request, we will provide referrals to support services, if necessary.
This research has been reviewed and approved by the Adelphi University Institutional Review Board. If required, we will provide your organization with a copy of our IRB letter of approval, or the entire IRB documentation. If your organization necessitates us to obtain your IRB approval in order to take part in this study, please let us know and, if possible, provide us with the information required to complete the application.

Dear LGBTQ members,
You are invited to take part in a research study entitled ?Discrimination, Stigmatization, and Mental Health Issues among the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) population of minority groups?. We are asking persons who identify as LGBTQ to participate in an online survey. The online survey will take about 20-25 minutes. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire about your background, sexual orientation, experiences with discrimination, and coming out. At the end of the survey, you will also be asked to participate in a focus group to be scheduled at a later date. If you agree to take part of the focus group, you will be asked to provide us with your preferred contact information.
Participation in this study is voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time. Your responses will be kept completely confidential. To guarantee this, neither your name nor any personal information will appear in the survey or in any published materials.
