Tariq Ramadan, an acclaimed author, academic, and Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies in the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Oxford University, will be visiting New York to address the transformations of Malcolm X after his pilgrimage to Mecca in 1964. Malcolm X's pilgrimage --which took place 12 years after he became a Muslim preacher, but less than a year before his death-- marked the beginning of many of his ideas and initiatives that have influenced our world to this day. Professor Ramadan will give the audience a personal account of the spiritual evolution of Malcolm X, who was a close friend to his father.

Other distinguished speakers will be part of this memorial event including the daughter of Malcolm X, and the Imam of the Mosque of the Islamic Brotherhood and Amir of the Islamic Leadership Council of Metropolitan New York, Al-Hajj Imam Talib Abdur-Rashid.
