Re: [NYC-rb] Last Day to Apply for Founder Dating

To be fair, the tech crunch link below is just promotion and not a data point. And the sorced site mentioned in the second link appears to just be a redirect to something else because the idea didn't work. Bad data points.

I am personally skeptical of founder dating because startups are so hard that folks should have a history of working together. On top of that, every investor wants to see a solid team, except for those willing to take on big risk. YC has even gone so far as to not care about the idea itself as long as they believe the team is great and works well together.

There are many folks out there trying to sell shovels to people digging for gold. I hope everyone keeps their whits about them.

A couple examples of successful matches include the team behind Y Combinator-backed referral platform Curebit, and inventory matchmaking site Sorced (whose cofounder, Elizabeth Knopf, has a longer post about the experience over on Women 2.0 - http://www.women2.org/founderdating-how-i-found-my-co-founder/)

Please send this around to friends who may not be on this list who would be interested.

Does founder dating work?

Is there evidence of any successful companies coming from events like this?

This is it. Last day to apply for the next round of Founder Dating is today.

Founder Dating a place where you can meet very talented people who are itching to disrupt the next industry. This is event is different to other "find a co-founder" events in that members are carefully screened to ensure the people you meet are awesome. People already part of this network include former founders or early employees of: stackmob, snaphish, asana, sountracking and hi5 to name a few. We also ensure a balanced event with an even number of engineers, designers and product/business folks.
