I think the parks and promenade along the Hudson River in Lower Manhattan create the most varied, interesting, and beautiful environment in the city. In addition to the striking river vistas, we'll see a treasure trove of outdoor art, monuments, memorials, and unusual parks. Then we'll loop around the tip of Manhattan for dinner (buy it or brng your own) on an elevated patio behind the South Street Seaport, overlooking the East River. Next we'll cross the Brooklyn Bridge (hopefully at sunset) and then tour Brooklyn Bridge Park and the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING DETAILS SO YOU'RE PROPERLY PREPARED.
DISTANCE: About 6 miles.
PACE: MODERATE, NOT SLOW. If you want to stroll slowly rather walk moderately, this is not the right hike for you!
FINISH AT: Around 9:30 PM. But you can leave earlier, of course.
COST: Whatever you pay for dinner at the Seaport's fast-food outlets (unless you bring your own); and $1 for me, in part to cover Meetup’s organizer fee.
TRANSPORTATION: Consult hopstop.com, but also check this link for subway and bus changes: http://travel.mtanyct.info/serviceadvisory.
WAITING LIST AND GROUP SIZE: Be patient if you're on the waiting list. It usually melts away as people cancel, especially in the last day or two. And don't be scared by the 80-person limit: We usually end up with only about 35 to 50 people, because of cancellations and no-shows.
